My first Pilates for a Purpose event at Flex Studios in Woodbury is in the books and I am so pleased with how it turned out. First, I want to thank all of the women who came and worked out with me on the FlexFormers for a great cause. It was the first time that most in the class had used a reformer before, and they killed it! Second, I would really like to thank Dianna, who donated her time and taught our amazing crew, and Flex Studios for hosting us in the space. We were able to raise a nice total in honor of Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month, thanks to everyone’s support!
Each year, I promote thyroid cancer awareness through my site—whether it’s sharing more about my personal story, providing an update, or inviting someone to guest post about their own diagnosis. But, this year, I really wanted to host a fundraiser and raise funds for the Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association (ThyCa), an organization that I greatly benefited from when I was diagnosed, and one that I still reference from time to time to keep current with thyroid-related research updates and advancements.
Since I love my workouts at Flex so much, they were the first ones I approached about hosting a donation-based class. I was thrilled when they agreed and even more honored to be able to share the workout with the women who attended the class the other night.
Dianna always does an incredible job teaching the class and making sure that everyone feels comfortable on the reformers. Even if it is an intro FlexFormer class, I still feel like I get a great workout and utilize every muscle in my body. I was glad to see that everyone enjoyed the class—and I may have even converted a few Pilates newbies into future pros!
At the end of class, I gave away a copy of Tough: Women Who Survived Cancer to one lucky participant. I hope Eva, who was the giveaway winner, enjoys the book!
I am so thankful to everyone who came out the other night and supported a cause that is so near and dear to my heart. I appreciate that everyone recognized the importance of this event and was willing to try something new for a great cause. I’m hoping to host some more fitness fundraisers, so keep an eye out for future announcements.
Again, thank you to Dianna, Flex Studios, and everyone who made a donation to the Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association!
