How are things? I’ve officially stopped counting how many weeks (months!) I’ve been in quarantine now, but it does truly feel like my new normal at this point. I hope you’re all staying healthy and coping well and have found a routine that suits your mental, physical, and emotional needs. Quite candidly, I’ve found blogging during the pandemic to be a bit of a challenge. My time outside is limited at best, I haven’t seen many people, and my outfits mainly consist of things comfortable enough to wear while at my desk in my living room (read: athleisure). On top of that, I haven’t felt incredibly motivated or inspired to sit down and write after sitting at my desk and working from home all day. Can anyone relate?
Part of my strategy with working from home and surviving the pandemic without having an anxiety attack has been to create a routine, which I have to say has worked pretty well. But there are still those days where I miss being able to walk into town and grab a coffee, shop at my favorite store, or just go out to dinner with friends.
Here are a few things that have sparked joy lately:
Booking a staycation: With no travel outside of my area for the foreseeable future, I booked a little getaway to the east end of Long Island for later next month. I’m hoping things will be a little better by then, but I decided to take extra precautions and reserved a private cottage for two nights (that I will be wiping down with Lysol when I arrive). I think the change of scenery will do wonders and now I have something on my agenda to look forward to.
Upgrading my iPhone: This has been on my to-do list for longer than I’d like to admit, but the time has finally come to retire my iPhone 6 (for real this time). I’ve been torn between the new iPhone 11 Pro and the 11 Pro Max for the longest time and have decided to go with the 11 Pro. Part of me has not wanted to upgrade my phone because I had so many photos to move off of it. But the pandemic was a great time to get everything in order, do my research, and make a decision. While I won’t officially be upgrading until next month, it is yet another thing to look forward to.
Beach walks: Part of my new routine entails taking an hour-long walk around my neighborhood on my lunch break. But after work, when the weather is nice, I love heading up to my local beach for a scenic sunset walk. It feels like such a treat to be down by the water and helps change up the scenery.
Iced cappuccinos: We’ve had a few warm days on and off over the past couple of weeks. While I technically gave up coffee back in March, I knew once the warm weather arrived, it would be hard to forgo my beloved iced cappuccinos. Luckily, Southdown Coffee is open with limited hours and curbside pick-up, so on those warm mornings, I’ve been driving over and getting my coffee fix. Who would have thought that something I used to do daily on my way to work, now feels like such a treat?
Initial necklace: I haven’t done any online shopping recently, which is great news for my bank account. However, I have been trying to support local small businesses when I do decide to purchase something. My most recent purchase was a beautiful initial necklace from Humble and Spark that I actually ordered a while back, but just got around to picking up. It’s on a gorgeous chain and I can’t wait to layer it with some of my other Humble and Spark necklaces.
What has brought you joy?
