It’s the final month of the year…and my last agenda post for 2015! Where has this year gone? With 21 days until Christmas, most of this month will be consumed with holiday shopping. But there should be some fun activities planned, right?
Try: I’ve mentioned before that I was a competitive figure skater at one time in my childhood. And although I’ve been back on ice skates in recent years, I’ve never skated at any of the outdoor rinks in New York City. Here’s hoping that this will be the season that I am able to cross this item off my agenda during one of my upcoming New York City trips.
See: And since there will be some time spent in New York City this month, the tree at Rockefeller Center and window shopping is on the itinerary.
Go: I went to Lake Placid, New York last year around this time and absolutely loved getting away for a few days before the holidays. Although much colder than Long Island (and I’m not a cold weather person by any means), Lake Placid reminded me more of a fancy ski resort town, and made me forget I was still in New York. Skating on the Olympic speed skating oval, watching ski jumpers, and going down the Olympic bobsled run were just some of the highlights. I hope time permits for a similar trip again this year!
Do: Lots…and lots of shopping! Usually I look forward to shopping, but when faced with crowded stores and long lines, not so much. I plan on braving the stores earlier this year (and during the week!) to snag the holiday gifts on my list with little hassle. Call me old-fashioned, but I still prefer shopping in stores over online!
What’s on your agenda this month?
I used to go to Lake Placid every summer with my family and love it there! It’s just so beautiful and serene!
Isn’t it nice up there in the summer, Kelly? It’s such a different feel in the winter, but I still enjoy it.
Have fun skating in NYC! I wish I was more skilled, but usually when I skate it’s just my husband pulling me around!

Awwww! I’m sure Germany is a beautiful place to skate this time of year, too. Give it a try again, Annessa! I promise, the more you do it, the better and more comfortable you’ll get!
Sounds like a fun-filled month! I wish I could ice skate – I end up spending more time on the ground than anything ha!

Thanks! There is something about this time of year that always makes me want to get back on the ice. I hope you have lots of fun activities planned this month!
I know, time is going by way too fast! I’ve been to Lake Placid years ago and loved the old charm of it. My mom recently went and brought back some olive oil from Saratoga Olive Oil Co. and it is AMAZING! They are top 10 in the world for the best olive oil selection, so if you do go again this year, I highly suggest you pay them a visit!
I also prefer shopping in store than online, but I’ve learned that sometimes the selection can be better online, but that only applies to some stores that I shop at. I like to be able to try on the clothes before purchasing it and walk around and browse different sections; it’s fun!
I hope you have a lovely day and weekend ahead, girlie and I hope you’re able to skate around at Rockefeller Center!
XO,
Jalisa

Thanks for the suggestion, Jalisa! I definitely will check them out if I make my way up to Lake Placid. Buying online certainly is more convenient, but I usually like to see the item in person and try it on to avoid the hassle of having to return something. I hope you have a great weekend!
Lake Placid sounds amazing this time of year xo

Loved reading this! I think I need a winter getaway too!

Thanks! I hope you get one, Heidi! Going away in the winter is so much fun.
I bet NYC at this time of year is amazing! You should totally go skate.

Thanks, Amy! This is one of my favorites times to head into NYC. Hope you have a great weekend!
Early shopping is really better. I love online shopping but I too still love to shop in stores… I love coming home with all the shopping bags ♥
summerdaisy.net
I agree, Summer! Coming home with shopping bags is half the fun. I hope you are having a great weekend!
I didn’t know you were a competitive figure skater. When I was a child, I wanted to be one, but I loved ballet more.I also prefer shopping in stores over online. I like to see and touch the products before I buy them. Have a great weekend, Vanessa!
Danielle

Thanks, Danielle! I did both figure skating and ballet as a child…and then fell in love with horses! I like to be able to touch and try on pieces before I buy, too — but you can’t deny the convenience of online shopping. I hope you have a great weekend!
My agenda includes getting all my presents wrapped up, sending cards and then snuggling into the couch. The holidays are stressful if you’re not prepared and I want the holidays to go smoothly this year! Love the winter in NYC, it can be so fast sometimes but if you have a hot cup of cocoa and your loved ones next to you, then it can be much sweeter.

Love what’s on your agenda this month — especially the cozy couch part! This season always seems to go way too fast, so I’m going to try to slow down and enjoy it. I hope you’re having a great weekend!
so interesting that you were a competitive figure skater!!!! let us know how it goes with your skating plan:):) I only tried ice-skating last year and it was fun.

Yes, I did, Jenessa! It was so much fun to skate as a kid. I’m always amazed when I get back on the ice now as an adult how it comes back to me. I hope you have a great weekend!
Thanks for sharing all the things you are doing this month. That’s so cool that you were in skating. I just plan on enjoying the special season with my family. 🙂

The tree is always so beautiful at Rockefeller, sounds like you have lots to look forward to this month! 🙂

Thanks! I love seeing the tree lit and all of the stores holiday displays. This is such a fun season to be in NYC!
I’ve only been to NYC once, and I decided not to go skating at Rockefeller bc the line was too long! I’m kind of regretting it now, but just the general vibe of the city in the winter is so festive. It sounds like you’ve got a full month ahead!

NYC is so exciting this time of year, Angelina! I hope you get the chance to skate in one of the City’s outdoor rinks soon.
What a great list and idea! I always love a good list, and this is perfect for the end of the year!
Thanks, Erica! I’m glad you enjoyed the post.
I love New York City so so so much but I’ve actually never been there around Christmas time! I hope you make it to see the tree, and all the windows in the shops too!
xoxo http://www.touchofcurl.com
Thanks, Colleen! Sadly, even though I live an hour away from NYC, I rarely go in around this time of year. But I’m looking forward to it this year, and the mild weather we’ve been having makes it even nicer. Hope you’re having a great weekend!
I’m the same with shopping! I love shopping but the crowds really put me off. The Rockefeller tree is on my to do list too, but more-so because I always get dragged along with my family lol
Mili
I couldn’t agree with you more about the crowds and shopping around this time, Mili! I hope you get to enjoy Rockefeller Center soon.
I would make it a point to see the window displays—I love what NYC stores do for their windows! And I’m the same way about shopping in stores, except that I find what I want in store and then I go home to use online coupons to get it online 🙂
Beauty V. Brains | Enter to win a Naked 3 palette!
That’s a great way to tackle shopping, Brittney! I would feel better about ordering something online if I first saw and tried it in the store. I’m definitely planning on checking out the window displays when I’m in NYC. Thanks for visiting Living in Steil!
Great ideas! I used to do lots of figure skating as a kid in Germany too…And I have been planning to finally go ice skating again this year too 🙂
Christina ♥ https://caliope.name
That’s great to hear, Christina! I skated as a child in Germany a couple of times when my father and I would make trips there to visit family. I can’t wait to get back on the ice this season!
Lovely post, thank you so much for sharing these places and activities! I will definitely do LOTS of shopping haha. Hope you have a wonderful day!

Lake Placid is so much fun if you like winter sports. There is a lot to do, and touring some of the old Olympic venues is always a favorite of mine. I went down the Olympic bobsled run last year. It was an incredible experience, and also slightly terrifying. I hope you get to visit soon, Jill!
What a great to-do list! Looks like you’re gone have lots of fun this month!
