It’s here! The time has come for the second part of my over-the-knee boot story.
You probably remember all of my posts lamenting my search for the perfect over-the-knee boots. I mentioned that I hesitated ordering online, fearing that the boots would be too tall, uncomfortable, or ill-fitting. Then, on a shopping trip to DSW, I spotted these black Diba OTK boots that ticked most of the boxes for me. I purchased them, but I was still secretly searching for that elusive pair!
Then one day I found them.
I was perusing a blog and there they were. Fearing an outrageous price tag, I sheepishly clicked on the link and let out the loudest scream of my life. The Catherine Malandrino Sorcha boot from the Nordstrom Rack looked eerily similar to the coveted Stuart Weitzman’s that are all the rage. But that wasn’t the reason for the scream — they were originally priced at $150 and were marked down to $79.97.
After a quick happy dance around the house, my excitement turned to disappointment (perhaps, outrage). I noticed that all three colors the boot came in and every size had two dreaded words next to it: Sold Out! What? My life as a blogger depended on these boots! I frantically called the nearest Nordstrom Rack and was patched through to numerous departments in search of some help. I kept getting the same answer: we’re sorry, but we don’t know if or when the boots will be back in stock. If? When? Those were not words I wanted to hear. Next, I began an online chat with the Nordstrom Rack headquarters, hoping for a more tangible timeframe. Unfortunately, I received the same response.
Determined to prevail, I bookmarked the link to the boots on my iPhone and iPad. I checked it morning, noon, and night (and then some!), while always having my credit card on hand. I grew hopeful when the little ‘sold out’ icon was missing from a pair, but despondent when the only available size was a 9.
A few weeks of stalking the Nordstrom Rack site went by…and still no luck. Maybe I wasn’t meant to have these boots after all. Just as I was ready to give up, I gave the site one last look on a Monday morning, early. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I leaped out of bed, grabbed my credit card, put a grey pair of size 6’s in my online cart and proceeded to checkout. Still not sure if this was a dream or reality, I entered my credit card information and was greeted by a confirmation email with an order number and a delivery date.
Once I knew my order had been processed I was elated. If any of the neighbors heard me that morning, they may have thought I lost my mind. Or perhaps you do after reading this lengthy story. But I swear, this purchase was one of the best I’ve ever made. And since it was right after my birthday in November, it was also the best belated present I’ve ever gifted myself.
The boots arrived on my doorstep the day before Thanksgiving. I frantically opened the bright pink shoe box to examine the boots. I hadn’t seen them yet in person and was nervous that they wouldn’t look as good, or worse, they wouldn’t fit. My fears were happily squashed after slipping the beauties on and parading around the house in them. I love the look of the grey suede, the heel, and the little tie detail high on the thigh part of the boot.
This purchase reminded me of the expression ‘good things come to those who wait.’ It’s easy to lose patience when you see something that you want and often, we settle for substitutes. I’m glad that my two pairs of OTK boots have a fun (albeit, verbose) story attached to them, but more importantly, they are a reminder of a life lesson.
Sadly, these boots are out of stock…again. If you are interested in them, I would suggest checking the Nordstrom Rack’s website frequently and crossing your fingers. You just may be surprised like I was!
