We are just past the mid-point of the first month of the New Year, so it is a good time to assess the progress I’ve made with my goals so far. A great way to stick to resolutions, changes, or objectives in your life is take inventory from time-to-time.
Here’s my progress preport:
Find an endocrinologist and make my health a priority
Although my appointment with my new endocrinologist isn’t until March, I’ve been diligently composing questions I’d like to ask her, compiling medical records, which looks like War & Peace, and just taking note of how I feel each day — usually tired and lethargic. I’ve also been better about refilling my Synthroid prescription (i.e.: not waiting until I’m down to my last pill to call the pharmacy).
The most considerable change so far has been in the nutrition department. I have ditched my beloved White Chocolate Mocha in favor of something that contains less sugar (really, 59 grams of sugar for a morning coffee is a bit much — even for this sugar addict). Now my beverage of choice is either a Starbucks latte macchiato or a cup of Kicking Horse Coffee, which I brew at home.
Grade: B+/A-
Remove technology from the bedroom
This goal has turned out to be harder than I initially thought. I figured I could just remove my phone from the bedroom and I would be fine. But part of the goal was also to limit my technology usage in the evening. That hasn’t worked out too well since I do my best writing at night. I also have yet to buy an alarm clock. So as of January 18th, my iPhone still resides in the bedroom. I’ve made a little progress when is comes to not scrolling through Instagram right before bed or as soon as I wake up. And I also keep my phone on silent a lot more during the day than I used to so I can avoid getting distracted with emails and texts while I work.
Grade: D+
Become a Starbucks shareholder
With the stock market being down at the moment, I’ve been diligently watching Starbucks price per share. Although I haven’t become a shareholder yet, I’m doing my market research before taking the plunge.
Grade: C
Stick to a fitness regimen
Last Saturday was my first time back at kickboxing class in two months. I was nervous to return after such a long hiatus, fearing how out of shape I was. But once I hit the studio and saw some familiar faces, I was pumped for the class. Sure, I was sore for a few days afterwards, but it felt good to start an exercise routine again. I’ve also added Pure Barre classes to my fitness regimen, and I’d like to start doing yoga at home on days when I don’t have a class to attend.
Grade: B
Choose happiness
I have made a concerted effort to embrace happiness this year. Of course, that doesn’t mean that every day is sunshine and roses, but I do try to find something positive in each day to make me happy. Whether that’s trying Dunkin Donuts new croissant donut creation (seriously, so good!) or treating myself to some new sweaters, sometimes the little things in life are just what you need. I’ve been focusing more on the here and now rather than the what-if’s down the road. Allowing things to happen organically is a great way to rid yourself of stress and anxiety — and can lead you down the path of happiness.
Grade: A
How are you doing with your New Year’s goals?
Love this post and your report card! I think it’s so good that you are constantly reassessing your goals. My goal of patience is doing okay. I would give myself a C+. Have a great week Vanessa!

Thanks, Len. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
It sounds like you are doing great with your New year’s goals. I think you should have graded yourself a little higher, especially in the fitness goal. I’m doing just okay with my goal of eating healthier. It gets difficult when I go out to a restaurant. Thanks for sharing your progress. Have a wonderful day!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Kathy! Eating healthy is so hard for me (#sugaraddict), but I’m making an effort to do so when I can. Glad you are doing well with your goals. Keep up the good work!
Great review! They can be so hard! Mine was to drink more water and workout in the mornings and so far I have been successful! Have an amazing day!

Keeping those goals up can be hard, Danielle. That’s why assessing your progress is so important. It sounds like yours are coming along nicely. Keep up the good work!
This is such a great accountability post! I really should check in with my goals so far!
Thanks, Amanda! I’m glad you enjoyed the post.
You have some great goals! I love how diverse they are! I need to recheck in with my goals, but some of them just started because well resolutions can be hard. Really trying to bring my lunch and breakfast to work. Hoping that goes well this week!

Bringing your breakfast and lunch to work sounds like a great goal, Adri! I like goals because you can begin them any time. Good luck with your goals this year!
Great goals! Wishing you a wonderful 2016!

Thanks! Same to you.
I am a little late to the game, because I still need to make my goals! However, I normally don’t stress about starting something new on January 1st…but more like in January when I find time. It was especially hard since we were out of the country until about 10 days ago and are just now getting caught up on everything. But, I love how you’re holding yourself accountable with these progress reports – such a good idea. And why have I not heard of Dunkin Donut’s version of the cronut?! Must try stat!

You need to try that croissant donut, Molly. It’s is amazing. I’ve been trying to refrain from making another trip to Dunkin. The great thing about goals is that you can start them at your leisure. I’m sure I will add new goals to this list as the year goes on!
Sounds like these are really coming along! I wish you good luck in improving your grades haha. Great post!

Thanks, Kiki! I’m hoping for straight A’s by the end of the year.
Good job on yours.:) I am failing miserably at fitness haha. But doing a little better with healthy eating at least. And doing much better with sticking to a work routine.

Well, we can’t get it all right, Krisztina. Keep working on your goals, and I’m sure you will ace them. Healthy eating has been a goal of mine every year, and it never quite sticks. But here’s hoping!
Great goals and good for reflecting on how you are doing so early!

Thanks, Rachel!
I love that you’re publicly grading yourself; what a way to keep accountable hehe. Great call on ditching the cup of sugar in the morning, that will probably be huge in helping your tiredness throughout the day! Great goals and I wish you the best of luck continuing on with them. It is so satisfying to successfully kick a negative habit to the curb!
Thanks, Tristan! I will admit that some mornings I miss my White Chocolate Mocha, but 59-grams of sugar is just ridiculous. I hope cutting it out will improve my overall health — and alleviate that tired feeling. Good luck with your goals this year!
I like this kind of post, especially as it’s reminding me to do a bit more with my resolutions as well. It’s great that you got back into your fitness routine, that’s something I’ve always struggled with. I do yoga and Blogilates, but cardio is more difficult.

Thanks, Angelina! I’m glad you enjoyed the post. Good luck with your goals this year.
My fitness goal really isn’t going great but I’m trying to incorporate at least one healthy meal a day to get all my vitamins in. Speaking of stocks, I should track my stock market picks a lot more now that you mention it! Good luck on all your resolutions!

Good luck with your fitness goals! I like the idea of incorporating one healthy meal per day. I’ve been working on eating better, too, but it is a struggle.
Totally loving this, choose happiness is my fav.

Thanks, Alice!
These are such wonderful goals! Honestly, I would never be able to remove technology from the bedroom, but I’ve just sort of accepted that this is the norm for our generation. Love that you’re trying to get back into fitness, I’m sure you’ll get into kickboxing again when you start going more regularly!

Thanks, Siffat! Removing technology from my bedroom has been so hard. Sadly, I’m lost without my iPhone. But I’m working on becoming a little less reliant. Thanks for reading!
