Ladies, we all would like that signature Kylie Jenner pout…without the needles. Am I right? While I love recommending products to you that I have tried and used, this week’s Stealing the Spotlight is a little different.
A quick backstory. Since high school, I have been slightly obsessed with the luscious look of full lips. At the time, DuWop made a product called Lip Venom that was all the rage. I was excited to try it — and it actually worked. Fast-forward to last week, when I relentlessly searched for the modern day equivalent of Lip Venom.
After scouring the internet and reading tons of product reviews, I decided to try Too Faced’s Lip Injection Extreme. It had earned top spots on almost all of the lists I saw. And the only negative thing anyone had to say was that if applied under the lip line it could irritate the skin (read: resulting in redness). So off to Ulta I went and $28 later walked out with a new product to love. Or so I thought.
{Before & After}
I waited until the morning I was going out to meet a friend for breakfast to try the product on my lips (mistake number one). I knew if it worked well I would want to share the news with you all, so I took before and after photos. But shortly after application, my lips felt very tingly (which is a normal side effect). I waited ten minutes before snapping the “after” photo, and as you can tell, the product did little to enhance the volume of my lips. I started to feel a numbness above my upper lip (in the philtrum area) and below my lower lip and got nervous, so I tried to wipe the excess product off. By the time I went out to meet my friend, I felt like I had been to the dentist and had Novocaine. It was an unsettling feeling, and not one that I would want to repeat.
I’m sure my reaction was an isolated incident, and I tell you this story not to scare you away from lip plumping products (if that’s your thing). But this experience taught me that instead of wishing for what I don’t have, I should be grateful for what I have. And after examining my lips (and applying lots of moisturizer to them!), I realized they are fine as they are.
Have you tried Too Faced’s Lip Injection Extreme? Are there any lip plumpers you would recommend?
That’s such a shame it didn’t worked, I’ve used the normal version and it definitely worked on my lips! It still wouldn’t recommend using products like this, you should try FulLips enhancers! Theyre amazing!

I actually had a very similar experience.. so we’re not alone! It won’t be something that I try again
Christina :: Simple and Delish
So sorry to hear that, Christina! Based on the reviews I read for a lot of lip plumping products, it sounded like my experience was very much an isolated incident. But I won’t be trying any other plumping products to find out!
Thanks for sharing your scary experience with this product. I agree that loving what we are and have is the best way to go. Thanks for being so honest!

Thanks, Kathrine! I’m glad I learned that lesson without any serious consequences.
Oh, wow. Thanks for sharing your experience. I’ve never been a big fan of plumping products for that very reason – if there’s a chance of reaction, my skin is going to have it. x

I can completely understand after my experience why you’ve never cared for these products, Audrey! Thankfully, with the help of some moisturizer, my lips are feeling better now.
I hate when they don’t do what they claim! Have an amazing weekend!

So do I, Danielle!
aww I’m sorry about your bad experience! I’ve been using this product for years and I love it! It doesn’t make me look like I have collagen in my lips but it does plump them up a little! I remember my first time though; the tingly scared me too, but it’s just normal and it’s how the product works; it’s basically giving you an allergic reaction to make your lips plump up!

Thanks, Sahra! I’m glad you’ve had good results with this product. The tingling at first didn’t bother me as much as the numbness did. I wouldn’t try using it again.
Is it crazy that I actually think your lips look plumper and better in their natural state? Gorgeous as is my lovely friend!

It’s not crazy at all, Kelly! I thought they looked better before I applied the product, too.
Oh my! Thanks so much for sharing your review- I always love reading about the products before I go buy them. PS- I totally remember Lip Venom!!

Wasn’t Lip Venom the best, Laura?! I’m glad you found my review helpful.
Yup. That’s basically the reaction I’ve had to every “lip plumping” product. You might be allergic to one of the ingredients.

Sorry to hear you’ve had a similar experience, Marina! I think I’m going to stay away from plumping products.
I typically avoid lip plumpers because I hate the feeling on my lips. I can’t imagine my lips feeling numb like that. Eeekkk! So scary!

I can totally understand why you avoid plumping products, Connie! This was not an experience I would like to repeat.
sounds good!

Thanks, Yukova!
I actually thought that this is literally a lip injection. The effect looks good on your lips, but I also agree that yours is already fine even without lip plumpers. Thanks for sharing every detail of your experience!
Thank you!
I used this product and lips appear fuller, plumper and shiny after using it. I would like to recommend it to my friends as well.
