When it comes to being health-conscious, what we put on our skin is just as important as what we put in our body. After my thyroid cancer diagnosis in 2013, I began to ponder what all those ingredients that I could hardly pronounce and appeared in everything from sunscreen to the foundation I use on my face every day were really doing to my body.
I enjoy trying natural products, and was thrilled when Block Island Organics reached out to me and asked if I would review their Natural Face Moisturizer SPF 30 with clear zinc. I admit, at first I was a bit hesitant because my skin is uber sensitive and doesn’t react well to new regimens. But upon hearing that it was a 2-in-1 product that offered both skin hydration and sun protection, and contained natural ingredients such as aloe, Shea butter, green tea, sunflower seed, and pomegranate, I was sold. If that’s not reason enough to try this moisturizer, how about the fact that it is free of parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals, phthalates, dyes, and artificial fragrances? Plus, it isn’t tested on animals!
Knowing that it was safe for my skin made it that much easier for me to give this product a try. I will admit, I only recently began applying a moisturizer to my face before bed. And sadly, I’ve relied for many years on the sunscreen that’s in my foundation as sufficient sun protection. But that’s all changed now, thanks to Block Island Organics.
I first applied the moisturizer to the inside of my wrist before putting it on my face just to be sure I wouldn’t have a reaction. When no reaction ensued by morning, I deemed it safe to liberally apply. The moisturizer was much richer and thicker than the one I had been using from Stila, which was a silkier consistency. I learned early on that a little goes a long way with the Natural Face Moisturizer. Apply too much — and it will feel like it’s laying on top of your skin.
During the winter months, my skin certainly appreciated the extra moisture that this product offered. And with the warmer months approaching, meaning more time outside and eventually at the beach; this will become my go-to product to nourish my skin. One of the benefits for me was that I can wear it under my makeup and have it serve as the perfect primer to give me that dewy finish. I felt great knowing that my skin was protected from the elements, yet didn’t feel smothered.

Love this post! Btw that stila foundation is phenomenal
Thank you! That foundation is one of my faves.
I am crazy about trying to use only all-natural products, but sometimes I have a hard time finding stuff I like. My current moisturizer is far from all natural, so I am excited to give this a try!!
Christina :: Simple and Delish
Definitely give this product a try, Christina! Your skin will appreciate the extra moisture, and you’ll feel good knowing it is protected from the elements — and that there are no harmful chemicals in the product you are applying to your face. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you decide to try it!
This is so perfect for summer – I am so bad with remember sunscreen so this is much needed!
Annessa / http://www.seekingsunshine.com
Right? This bottle has earned a spot in my beach bag this year. I love how it protects my skin — and doesn’t make it feel greasy like most sunscreens do. I’m glad you enjoyed the post, Annessa!
This seems like a really great line and product. I, too, try and be cautious about what I put on my skin because it’s so easily absorbed into the bloodstream and harsh, superficial chemicals can cause all sorts of problems.. It’s crazy what they put in these products isn’t it? Thanks so much for sharing this line with us and I couldn’t help but notice that beautiful eye palette in your flatlay, love! I hope you’re having a great start to your day so far, beauty!

Thanks, Jalisa! I’ve definitely started to become more aware of the ingredients in products, and what I’m putting on my face. I have sensitive and acne-prone skin, so the fewer ingredients the better. I love that this moisturizer is a 2-in-1 product, meaning I can apply fewer products to my face to achieve the same great protection. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you give this moisturizer a try!
Sounds like an amazing product! Thanks for sharing!

Definitely need this! My skin gets ridiculously dry when it’s cold out and it can use all the SPF it can get!
