{Jeans//Boots//Blazer (similar here)//Flats (similar here)//Tunic}
I love quick getaways. And this week I’ll be spending time in good old Philadelphia. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of content on the blog this week, and you can follow my journey on Snapchat (username: livinginsteil), and on Instagram. If you have any coffee shops (you know how much I appreciate a good cup of joe) or restaurants I need to try, please leave them in the comments below.
I like to pack light when I travel. My rule of thumb when it comes to luggage is if I can’t comfortably carry it, it won’t be coming with me. There is no worse feeling than having to schlep heavy bags along on your trip — and battle sore muscles as a result. This is even truer when I’m going on a getaway totaling fewer than five days.
Here’s what made the cut for my trip to Philadelphia (following my self-imposed one bag limit):
LOFT skinny jeans: All of the jeans in my closet are from LOFT. I love how they fit, and the best part is that I don’t need to shorten them. I own many pairs in different colors and washes, and they look just as good now as they did when I first bought them. They’re easy to pair with flats or riding boots, and dress-up nicely.
Riding boots: My Franco Sarto riding boots were probably one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Whether I’m running to a kickboxing class (yes, I wear them with my leggings until I get to the studio), or walking around New York City, these boots are an easy choice. They’re comfortable to walk in all day, and the gold accent pieces add just the right touch. And even though it’s officially spring, this weather has been so unpredictable that boots may be a necessity during this trip.
Blazer: There may be snow in New York, but I’m hoping to catch some warmer weather in Philadelphia and ditch the winter coat. My navy H&M blazer will be perfect for those days in the 60’s that are supposedly on the horizon.
Flats: Just in case the weather turns out to be too warm for boots, my Adrienne Vittadini flats don’t take up much space and can add just the right amount of bling to any look.
Tunic: I own one, and only one tunic. But after shopping at Target recently and spotting this beauty from Merona, I may be a convert. It’s so cozy, and the perfect piece to wear with leggings — or while stuck in a car for three hours.
Basic layering pieces: Since it’s still sweater weather–at least it was when I left New York–I packed along a few long-sleeves that would work under a blazer, and with a light coat. I opted to leave the dark hues at home, and broke out my baby blues and blushes to welcome the start of spring.
What are your must-have items for a getaway?
Can’t wait to follow along on your adventure.. It’s going to be chilly until Wednesday; a high of 70 is expected!! Have a great time!
Christina :: Simple and Delish
Thanks, Christina! It was very windy in Philly today. I’m so glad I packed along a scarf and gloves.
Very good post. Cant wait to see more picture.

Thanks, Christianne! I’m glad you enjoyed the post.
Enjoy your trip! I love what you chose to bring. That tunic is totally me so I think I’ll be heading to Target soon. 🙂

The tunic from Merona is the best, Kathrine! It has been on major repeat since I purchased it. Definitely scoop one up!
Love this list! I always pack a pair of confortable (but cute) walking shoes and then a pair of heels for nicer dinners!

Thanks, Courtney! I decided to skip the heels for this trip. And I’m glad I did — cobblestone streets and heels don’t mix too well. Plus, it’s kind of frigid with the wind, so I’m keeping pretty bundled. I think my riding boots will be getting a workout while I’m in Philly!
Great packing!!! Have a really fun time!!!

Thanks, Danielle!
I’m totally with you on the one bag rule. I always seem to overpack and end up kicking myself halfway through a trip!

The one bag rule is the way to go, Molly! I hate schlepping bags on vacation.
Sounds like a fun getaway! You MUST go to Farmica! Every time we go to Philly, we eat there. The food is sooo good! Can’t wait to read all about your trip 🙂
Taffeta & Tulips
Thanks for the recommendation, Kate! I checked, and they are closed today. But I’m planning on going there for dinner tomorrow night.
Great packing, have a good trip. Gemma x

Thanks, Gemma!
Great picks! I’m sooo bad at packing lightly, but you have it down perfectly!

Thanks, Annessa! It took me a while to get the hang of it, but it’s so much easier to travel with fewer things. I feel like I’m a pro now!
This looks like such an excellent trip you’re packing for! Love reading what people pack–your items are perfect for a colder area than where I am (cali) since I usually roll a bunch of dresses in my carry on! Never tried jeans from loft, I’ll have to check them out <3

Thanks, Shveta! I’m so glad you liked what I packed. I agree — when I went to California last spring, it was much easier to pack for. The weather on the East Coast has been so erratic, so I had to bring more layers than I normally would.
oh great tips!

Thanks, Jenessa!
Flats are a must for me, too. Looks like I also need to try loft jeans, I have a pair of jeggings that I love from there! Hope you have a great trip!

Thanks, Jamie! Loft jeans are the best. They are the only jeans I buy anymore.
I love those Adrienne Vittadini flats, her shoes are so comfy and stylish! I know, I can’t believe we got snow, like…really?! And on the first day of spring, what’s up with that?! Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful time in Philly, you def. have to have a Pilly Cheesecake and let us know how its. I’ve never been to Philly, but of course, I’d assume that there’s would be the best! Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you’re having a wonderful day so far, girlie!

Thanks, Jalisa! Those Adrienne Vittadini flats are my fave. I can’t believe we got snow either. At least warmer temps will be arriving later this week and it should melt quickly. Hope your Monday is off to a good start!
LOFT jeans are my go to. They fit so well! Have so much fun in PA. It’s such a fun town to spend a few days in.

I love that you packed up versatile clothes and one can never go wrong with a blazer and skinny jeans.

Right, Meron? Blazers and skinny jeans are always my go-to pieces when I travel.
Lovely post, gorgeous photos! I live in Wales, UK, and I just stumbled across your blog. I’ve actually just written a post on my 6 holiday “must haves”, so please feel free to drop by 🙂 Have a lovely weekend!
