In light of yesterday being equal pay day, I wanted to put in my two cents on the subject (pun intended). There have been many times in my professional career when I was less concerned with what I was making—like when I had just graduated from college and was merely happy with a steady paycheck. It has taken me years to learn my worth and to understand what I bring to the table. In part, it has come with age, but it has also come with experience.
Now that I am in my thirties and have all of those fun adult responsibilities (and have to pay for them on my own), fighting for my worth seems like a no-brainer. I’ve learned a lot from my experience as a blogger, where there were at times the expectation that I could work for free. Those life lessons taught me never to undervalue myself and to always negotiate for what is fair.
Each of us have our own value—whether we work for ourselves or someone else. But if we don’t know our worth, no one else will.
And don’t forget about the tax…

I couldn’t agree more with your assessment. We all need to get what we deserve.
