Another summer weekend is in the books and I got to cross off seeing two more concerts at Heckscher Park that were on my August Agenda!
Fortunately, the weather cooperated for both shows (although it was looking a little dicey on Saturday) and I was able to get front row seats in the park to see the Danny Green Trio on Friday night and David Stewart Wiley and the Long Island Orchestra performing Leonard Bernstein’s America on Saturday evening.
The Danny Green Trio is a new group to Heckscher Park, but I instantly loved their sound. Before the concert began, the members of the group sat on stage for a Q&A and talked about how their songs originated. It was interesting to hear the backstory and I will definitely be downloading some of their music to my playlist. If you like jazz-fusion, check them out!
The Long Island Orchestra always puts on a good show, so I cleared my schedule when I saw that they were coming to Heckscher Park. This year, they performed songs from Bernstein’s America, including medleys from “The Sound of Music” and “West Side Story.” They also played Irving Berlin’s I Love a Piano and George Gershwin’s Lullaby for Strings. But the highlight of the evening was Jeffrey Biegel on the piano performing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. It is one of my favorite pieces and the perfect way to close out a concert.
I hope you were able to follow along on my Instagram Stories and enjoy some of the tunes!
P.S.Be sure to visit my Instagram tomorrow (8/7), as I’ll be sharing a photo for a cause that is near and dear to my heart!
Rhapsody in Blue is one of my faves too! What a wonderful concert to attend. I will make sure to pay extra attention to your stories tomorrow. Have a great week Vanessa!
