Even though fall has yet to officially arrive, September still seems to mark the beginning of the season. While I’m going to hang on to my sundresses a little while longer, I will have to come to grips with slowly swapping out my iced coffees, putting my sandals away, and pulling out some cozy sweaters for the chilly moments in the day. Although summer is by far my favorite season, I feel like I got everything out of the summer of 2018 that I could and am ready to (slowly) embrace fall.
So, here’s what’s on my agenda this month:
Go: Permission to come aboard, Captain? I am participating in my first regatta tomorrow! While I’ve sailed before, and was even part of a sailboat race once, I would hardly call myself a sailor (although, I do have ‘starboard’ and ‘port’ nailed down!). With the start of a new season, I’ve found myself becoming more adventurous. So, when an opportunity came about to set sail on a 45 foot sailboat in Port Jefferson Harbor, I volunteered. I’m not sure how much I will be able to share on Instagram Stories from the event, but I will definitely give a brief recap on the blog next week.
Do: September is a month that is very special to me—it is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month. I’m grateful to be a five-year thyroid cancer survivor and to have my voice be part of this community. There will be posts coming up throughout the month on the blog about thyroid disease and thyroid cancer awareness, but today I am honored to have my story featured on the Thyroid, Head and Neck Cancer (THANC) Foundation’s site as part of their 30 Stories in 30 Days Campaign. Click here to read my story.
Visit: I recently saw on Facebook that my alma mater, The American University, is hosting an upcoming young alumni reception in New York City and will be holding a private tour of The Morgan Library and Museum. While I’ve been back to Washington, D.C. and have visited the campus semi-regularly since graduating, I have been less than active in the alumni association. As I near my 10 year college reunion and prepare to return to campus to commemorate the milestone, I though the event in NYC would be the perfect opportunity to get reacquainted with my fellow alums.
Try: In an effort to continue my summer Fridays, I purchased the beloved Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask. I totally get why every beauty blogger raves about this product and is therefore sold out in so many places. If you haven’t seen this must-have product making the rounds on Instagram, the mask is ultra hydrating and can be used as a primer under makeup or you can actually let it work while you rest. Yes, you heard me right. No need to rinse off the mask. Just apply a thin layer before bed and wake up with instantly dewy skin. I had every intention of using this product only once a week, but so far, I’ve used it nightly. A full review will be coming to the blog soon, but I have a feeling that their new exfoliating Overtime Mask will make its way into my beauty regimen soon.
Enjoy: This summer, I indulged in way too much ice cream. But my sweet tooth actually paid off. I won a giveaway that my favorite local ice cream shop, Herrell’s, was hosting to celebrate their 10-year anniversary. Finding out I won the giveaway was a sweet way to start off the week—since it included a gift card to my favorite restaurant, two containers of ice cream, and Herrell’s hot fudge sauce (and some sprinkles, too). I guess my ice cream indulging will have to last a little longer now.
What’s on your agenda this month?
I need to try this mask and can’t wait to hear about this regatta you are sailing in! That trip to NYC sounds like a good time as well. Not too much on the agenda for me this month. Have a great weekend!

The mask is awesome, Kathrine! I have been using it nightly and sleeping in it. So far, I love it. Will share on the blog soon!
Good luck with the regatta. How exciting that must be to participate in. Here’s hoping for a wonderful month ahead for us all
