A couple of months ago I discovered a new-to-me athletic brand. My love for good athletic wear runs deep, so after finding out about Ghost Flower Activewear and learning that they were hosting an event near me, I trekked out to the east end of Long Island and attended a Fire Flow yoga class taught by Bonnie Crotzer from Ghost Flower’s health and performance team. During the class I got a crash course in Chinese medicine and acupressure points in the body. I was immediately inclined to learn more about the brand and the acupressure practice.
If this is the first time you are hearing the name Ghost Flower, I can assure you that we aren’t doing voodoo over here. Let me walk you through the details that the brand incorporates into their pieces and you’ll see why I was so instantly enamored.
You might first notice that the pieces in the collection are visually appealing with their bold colors, prints, and materials. But first impressions are only half the story. This is a brand that goes much deeper than looks. Founded by an avid yogini and designed by women with backgrounds in yoga, pilates, acupressure, and movement—and in collaboration with Eastern medicine experts—Ghost Flower offers an integrated practice with pieces that are built around the body’s natural energy channels—or Qi. In short, everything was designed to allow women to look and feel amazing while also working with the body to keep energy networks open.
Ghost Flower has achieved this through incorporating tiny acupressure points into the workout attire. Look closely. Do you see the silver dot? It’s actually a discreetly placed Ghost Flower logo on key acupressure points that follow the body’s natural muscle groups. Each one of these points holds a key to unlock different energy networks based on their location.
While there is a lot to learn about all of the different acupressure points in the body (and I by no means am an expert just yet), Ghost Flower has made it easy to get started with a collection where seams follow the energy channels and visual cues can help even beginners harness the power of their own bodies.
They’re collection includes the five elements traditionally found in Chinese medicine, which each have their own transformative energy—Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, and Metal. If you are looking for serene blue tones and want to be calm but fearless, check out the Water collection. If metallic is more your style and you like to achieve through discipline, you’ll like the pieces in the Metal collection. Or perhaps you want to radiate warmth and joy? Then a piece from the Fire collection might light up your heart.
I was seeking to feel more centered in my athletic wear and chose to try out the Nourish bra and leggings in the Harvest Print from the Earth collection with its mix of bright colors and prints.
When my Ghost Flower activewear arrived at my door it was even prettier than it appeared on the website. The colors were so vibrant and the premium Italian compression fabric felt luxurious (are you sure I can’t wear these pieces to the office?). I quickly slipped into my new workout attire and was delighted when it fit like a glove. I ordered an x-small, which was snug, but perfect for my petite frame.
The Nourish bra and leggings won me over at first glance, but how do the pieces perform in a workout setting? Ghost Flower thought of everything in the design process and I can honestly say that the pieces felt like a second skin during the first yoga class I wore them to. As you can see from the photos, I felt centered and grounded in the attire, attributes which are key elements of the Earth collection.
Once I tried the pieces for myself, I spent some time reading up on the Earth element and was intrigued to learn that the yin, or the receptive principle, is the spleen and the yang, the active principle, is the stomach, which can translate into better metabolism and stronger digestion. In Chinese medicine, the terms “yin” and “yang” describe how opposite forces can be complementary or interconnected to interrelate to one another.
Now that we know how good the Earth element can be for the body, can we talk about how gorgeous the Harvest Print is on the body? I received tons of compliments on this outfit when I wore it to yoga and also when wearing it around New York City for the photo shoot. The print is fun and playful, while also being strong and bold.
After owning two pieces from the brand, I am now an avid Ghost Flower enthusiast and am looking forward to expanding not only my activewear collection with them, but also my knowledge of acupressure. I’m intrigued by what Ghost Flower has created and love the notion of having your activewear be an extension of your body.
Ghost Flower has seamlessly merged truly functional athletic wear with aesthetically pleasing pieces in each one of their collections. Every last detail has been designed with the body’s movement and energy flow in mind.
