Now that spring is finally here, it means we are that much closer to summer…and beach season. Since my trip to the Cayman Islands is booked, it also means that I need to up my workout game—at least when it comes to exercising during the workweek.
Earlier in the week, I decided to treat myself to a FlexIR class at the new Flex Studios that opened up on Long Island (and is right on my way home from work). All day, I was excited about the 6:00 pm workout and couldn’t wait to head to the studio.
When Flex Studios had their Grand Opening earlier this month, I tried out a FlexIR class and was instantly hooked. In 55 minutes, I got a total body workout and felt amazing afterwards. FlexIR combines a mat Pilates class with a detoxifying boost of infrared heat to build endurance through a full-body workout. Since this was my second FlexIR class, I came prepared to sweat…and armed with a full bottle of water!

Using a mat, weights, a resistance band, and a Magic Circle, this semi-private class really kicked my butt…but in a good way (think of the class as a mat Pilates/cardio yoga class and you’ll get the idea). I love that it is a low-impact workout for my joints, yet challenges my upper body and really works my core to improve my strength and stability.
I felt incredible after class and the workout helped get me conquer the rest of the week. With a trip to the Caymans on the horizon, I see a lot more classes at Flex Studios in my future in the coming weeks.
If you want to challenge yourself and try a different type of workout, FlexIR is for you!
