I go away for a couple of weeks and here we are in September (although I only left the blog, and not Long Island)! I hope you’ll forgive my absence around here, but I really needed to soak up every last minute of August that I could—and that meant giving myself a little break from blogging. Since my last post, the end of August called for a trip out to the Hampton Classic Horse Show and lots of time at my favorite little local beach. Labor Day was pretty low-key and included what may have been my final stop at Herrell’s Ice Cream until next summer. September started with a fun little trip to Gallery North in Setauket, NY for an outdoor art show (where I stopped by my friend and jewelry designer, Stephanie Occhipinti’s booth to say hello). So, there, now you are all caught up with my whereabouts.
While summer isn’t officially over (as evidenced by my white nail polish that I still refuse to take off), it is on the way out…whether we like it or not. But, fear not, September is jam packed with fun things to do, too.
Do: September marks Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month, and as such, I think it is important to promote thyroid disease and cancer to increase awareness during the month. Whether it’s sharing my personal story or posting thyroid-related content on the blog, I hope that through this awareness initiative people will learn more about thyroid health, the signs and symptoms of thyroid disease and cancer, and how to perform a neck check. If there is any specific content you would like me to post about, please leave a note in the comment section below. This month, I will be hosting a special donation-based pilates class with Flex Studios in Woodbury, NY to support Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month. Stay tuned for more details!
Read: My survivor book! That’s right (here’s where a drumroll sound would come in handy)—TOUGH: Women Who Survived Cancer will be out on September 17th and can be pre-ordered here. To celebrate the release, we will be having a book launch party at the end of the month. I hope you all will love the book and find it as inspiring as I do. But until then, let the countdown begin until I can finally hold a copy of this little baby in my hands.
Go: Did someone say the Gipsy Kings will be at The Paramount tomorrow night? Well, yes they did. And that is also where I will be. While I am already missing my summer concerts outside at Heckscher Park, I am lining up quite the roster of concerts at The Paramount that I plan on seeing this fall. And it all kicks off with the Gipsy Kings, a group of flamenco, salsa, and pop musicians from the south of France. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a Tuesday night!
Try: My workout regimen has pretty much come to a screeching halt since mid-July. With a couple of back-to-back heat waves and a real lack of energy, I gave myself permission to take some time off and just let my body recoup. But I did also tell myself that I would return to my regularly scheduled workouts in September So, just this past Saturday, I stayed true to my word and went back to kickboxing. Later this month, I am excited to attend the Yoga + Brunch Club’s last yoga workout of the season at The Clubhouse in Bellmore, NY. What could be better than getting in a zen 45 minute vinyasa class and then enjoying a leisurely brunch? Nothing, right! If you’d like to attend this event, too, click here to register.
What’s on your agenda this month?
