Where, oh where, has the time gone? It feels like just yesterday I had my beach bag packed and I was hitting the beach every second I could, and now I’ve got my flannel shirt on and I’ve already gone apple picking. Yet, here we are, at the start of a new month.
Aside from summer and my birthday month, October is one of my favorite times of the year. Who doesn’t love 30 days of scary movies, pumpkin pandemonium, endless amounts of Candy Corn, and an entire day devoted to dressing up as whatever you want?
While there is lots of fun to be had this month, October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So, somewhere in between all the candy and costumes, please take a minute to check your breasts and go for your annual mammogram, if applicable. Ok, my PSA is over.
Here’s what’s on my agenda this month:
Go: If you follow me on Instagram and Stories, you may have noticed that I am gearing up for a trip. I’m now a few days away from take off, yet with a lengthy to-do list at work that is still looming over me, it hasn’t even dawned on me yet that I should really start packing for my two week vacation in Europe. Luckily, I’m a light packer and work well under pressure. Things will be more quiet around here than usual after Friday’s post, so please keep up with my adventures on Instagram where I’ll be #TravelingInSteil.
See: Even though I will be away from almost half the month, that hasn’t stopped me from adding events to my social calendar for when I return. One event that I am really looking forward to is the Historic Haunts of Long Island lecture and book signing with author Kerriann Flanagan Brosky and medium Joe Giaquinto. I was fortunate enough to meet Kerriann in person when she attended one of my shopping events at LOFT and recently my Pilates for a Purpose event at Flex Studios. If you know anything about me, I am fascinated by paranormal activity and all things related to criminology, so this lecture is right up my alley. Visit Kerriann’s website to learn more about her upcoming events on Long Island.
Do: What could be more exciting than a little “frightlife” right before Halloween? Well, that’s just what the ladies of Lucky to Live Here Realty in Cold Spring Harbor, NY have organized for the past ten years. Their annual “Witches Night Out” offers a spook-tacular night of local shopping, costumes, and all around fun. So, grab your girlfriends and head to Cold Spring Harbor on Thursday, October 24th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm!
Try: I am all about incorporating new workouts into my routine. So, last month, when Fern Olivia introduced me to a Gyrotonic studio right in my own backyard, I was beyond excited to learn more about the movements and benefits of the practice. Fortunately, I was able to watch Fern on some of the machines and I got to meet Patricia, who owns the studio, for a behind-the-scenes look at the workout. While perusing the Gyrotonic LINY site, I was amazed at all of the health benefits associated with this practice—everything from improving posture and balance to oxygentating the blood and opening up the body’s energy pathways. Aside from the practice itself and the associated health benefits, the studio is tranquil and feels like you’ve stumbled upon a hidden sanctuary. I’m really looking forward to taking a class with Patricia when I return from my trip and learning more about Gyrotonics.
