A new year is always filled with so many opportunities—the opportunity to make resolutions, create new goals, and set new intentions. It’s also when you start putting things on your calendar that you promised yourself you would tend to “after the holidays.” I’m wasting no time in 2020 and have already started using my planner to schedule some events on my itinerary.
Here’s what’s on my agenda this month:
Do: Did you know that January is Thyroid Disease Awareness Month? It’s the perfect time to schedule that check-up with your primary care, if you’ve been putting it off. It’s also a good time to check in with your thyroid—you know, that butterfly-shaped gland at the base of your neck that controls the production of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), your body temperature, and even your metabolism. It’s important to perform a neck check, just like you would perform a breast exam, to feel for any nodules (which could be completely benign). Many organizations offer free resources, like this downloadable infographic from the Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association (ThyCa) showing you how to perform a neck check yourself, but it is also important to have your doctor check your thyroid labs at your next appointment for blood work. I just had my thyroid labs checked the other day and will be seeing my endocrinologist next week for my yearly thyroid ultrasound. Keep your fingers crossed for a clean bill of health. Also, if you missed it, Annie James Jewelry, featured my story on her Instagram. Annie is a jewelry designer and a fellow thyroid cancer survivor who donates 20% of her profits to support thyroid cancer patients.
Go: Tonight, I will be attending my first Babes in Business Long Island event. One of my intentions for 2020 was to attend more professional development events, workshops, and conferences, so this came up at just the right time. I love connecting and collaborating with other local woman who are fellow bloggers and business owners, and I’m looking forward to hearing from an amazing panel of speakers and meeting some new and inspiring people.
Try: My yoga routine has been virtually non-existent lately. So, when a friend suggested I check out her yoga studio and try a class with her, I was in. I’m looking forward to getting back into a yoga routine and trying out a new studio and teacher and seeing how my Gyrotonic practice helps me connect with my breath in yoga.
Get: I took full advantage of the “End of the Decade” sale that Ghost Flower (you know, the athleisure brand I’m always talking about that incorporates acupressure points into their workout pieces) was having before we rang in 2020. I ordered the Ignite bra and legging set in their bold Celebration print from their fire collection and can’t wait to receive my order and learn more about the element and how it works with the body. The fire element in Chinese medicine is known to be a heart protector, aid in Qi distribution, and help with circulation and food absorption. One of my favorite things about receiving a new piece from Ghost Flower is learning about the six different elements and how the pieces maximize their benefits. Want to try a piece from Ghost Flower yourself? Use my code XOVANESSASTEIL and receive 10% off your first purchase.
