The recent events these last couple of weeks have truly hurt my heart. While I still don’t have the proper words to match my emotions, I felt a responsibility and a duty to take some time away from posting my normal content on social media and the blog to stop and listen to those around me. Last week, I muted myself on Instagram, and spent the time learning and letting the powerful words of others sink in. As a society, we have a commitment to do better, and together as citizens, we will. Change starts with each one of us, and it starts now.
As we cautiously begin to resume some semblance of life as we knew it, I’ve been met with very mixed emotions. Although I want to go out and enjoy the nice weather as places begin to reopen, I’ve grown accustomed to staying in and staying safe. Therefore, my June agenda looks nothing like I thought it would. But oddly, I’m okay with that.
Here’s what’s on my agenda this month:
Go: After much internal debate about travel this summer, I decided to book a little getaway to the Breakers, a boutique hotel in Montauk later this month. I’m looking forward to relaxing in the private 2 bed, 1 bath cottage complete with a deck and views of the ocean directly across the street. I visited the Breakers for a yoga retreat back in 2018, and when thinking about where to go this month, it was the first place that came to mind. I love the quiet location and that the cottage amenities mean that I’m not sharing any space with other guests (I’ll also be bringing plenty of Lysol wipes with me, so I can wipe everything down once I arrive just to be extra cautious!). I’ll be sharing a lot of content on social media during my stay, so follow me on Instagram and Instagram Stories for a behind-the-scenes look.
Try: Recently, Danielle, the founder of Zestbox, a monthly box filled with wholesome foods and wellness surprises, reached out and offered to send me a box to try. We instantly connected on the phone, as she’s a cancer survivor and superfoods advocate herself. As a self-described snack-a-holic, I was immediately intrigued by her curated box and couldn’t wait to try her carefully selected healthy snacks. When my box arrived, it was certainly a snack-a-holic’s dream—complete with different kinds of chips, granola bars, and breakfast treats. My box even included a sweet ginger barbecue sauce and a Grill Master burger seasoning, which will be perfect for summer grilling. I’ll be writing a full review on the blog soon, but if you are in search of a graduation or Father’s Day gift, a Zestbox is it!
Buy: I haven’t done much online shopping these last few months, but I did just make a few #PandemicPurchases (in my defense, they were needs and not wants). After reading tons of reviews about Supergoop! Glowscreen SPF 40 (and after getting a sunburn on my face a couple of weeks ago), I ordered it. I love that it is lightweight and not greasy and that it also gives a dewy finish alone or under makeup. I also finally ordered the Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm that has been on my wish list for months (read, the April agenda). I have a feeling both of these products will be worth the wait! Oh, and there might be an inflatable stand up paddleboard and a new iPhone 11 Pro among my list of soon-to-be purchases (also, total needs).
Milestones: While there might not be much on my agenda in the way of trips and travels this month (or this summer), June is a special month in and of itself. On Sunday, June 7, I celebrated National Cancer Survivors Day and recognized cancer survivors everywhere, as well as my own thyroid cancer community. I have met so many amazing wellness warriors who have continued to inspire me on my journey. I also officially graduated from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition Health Coaching Program this month and am now a Certified Holistic Health Coach. I’m looking forward to working with clients who are seeking to improve their overall health and live a healthier lifestyle. And, finally, later this month on June 18, I will be celebrating seven years as a thyroid cancer survivor. I’m beyond grateful to mark this milestone and can’t wait to see where this next year takes me.
