Did anyone else do a double-take when they looked at their calendar and saw that Christmas was this Friday? I certainly did. I for sure thought I had another week to go. In what has felt like the most endless year ever, we’ve somehow made it to Christmas in warp speed. I thought I was for once ahead of the game when I began ordering presents right after Thanksgiving (and anticipating heavy shipping delays in advance). Yet, with less than 48-hours to go until the big day, I’ve once again found myself scrambling (thank goodness for local shops and curbside pick-up).
While still being in quarantine doesn’t exactly lend itself to celebrating (and aside from the big tree in my living room, it doesn’t exactly feel like Christmas), I’m somehow more in the holiday spirit than I’ve ever been. Perhaps that’s because I barely get out these days or see people, but decking out my apartment and putting up a Christmas tree (which I do every year, but almost didn’t do this year), has brought me an immense amount of joy.
So, while Christmas this year may not look like the holidays of the past, I’m more thankful than ever for people’s presence in my life and not for the presents they buy. I will cherish this low-key holiday with my amazing little “quaranteam” who have helped me get through these last nine months with my sanity still somewhat intact.
Whether you’re able to be with your loved ones or are gathering virtually from afar this year, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy holiday season!
