Is anyone else hitting a “pandemic wall,” so to speak? I was doing fairly well sticking to my daily routine…until last month that is. By the end of January, I felt as though I had lost all sense of time (and motivation), a trend that has continued well into this month, too. Adding insult to injury, we on the east coast have been dealing with almost weekly snowstorms (or in the case of this coming week, daily snowstorms). For now, I’ve been occupying my time with at-home workouts and by counting the days until March (although the fact that it is now light past 5 pm is a good indicator that better days are ahead).
The last time I checked in here was right before my getaway to Beacon, NY, which was a great little trip and a nice way to break up the monotony of my routine and surroundings. For me, the highlight was visiting Dia:Beacon. They had so many amazing pieces and interactive art to peruse, but I also loved that the museum itself was huge and the perfect place to spend an afternoon…while social distancing.
Since my last post, I’ve seen a new endocrinologist who I loved and celebrated World Cancer Day last week on February 4. It’s always such an honor to share my thyroid cancer story with old and new friends on social media, but this year, it was extra special. I did an Instagram Live with Kathleen Brown, a cancer survivor herself, and the founder of Buddhi, an online platform for those coping with cancer. Kathleen and I chatted about my cancer diagnosis and my work as a Board Certified Patient Advocate, and we shared some tips about how to deal with the emotional side of a cancer diagnosis. I highly suggest tuning into this Thriver Thursday episode, if you or a loved one is dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
With limited things on my agenda, and with the weather making any outside activities physically impossible, I’ve been doing a lot of online shopping and have been on a natural skincare and beauty kick. Not too long ago, I threw out a whole bunch of products that I had been hanging on to. But it wasn’t until I had a conversation about natural deodorants with a friend, that I decided to take a good look at all of the products that I’ve been using. One immediate change was to order a new deodorant from Salt and Stone, a natural skincare brand based in Los Angeles, CA. From there, I’ve recently purchased a tinted moisturizer from Ilia Beauty, the bio-retinol gold mask from Evolve Beauty, eye masks from H. Hazel, and my personal favorite purchase, this rose quartz eye mask from Sephora. I’ll be sharing more about all of these products once I have some time to use everything, but so far, I’m very happy with my purchases (and hope my skin will be, too). Here’s to upping my self-care game in 2021.
So, now that we’re all caught up, what have you been up to lately?
