I feel like I say this every month — and especially during the summer — but how did we get here? Just the other day, we were celebrating Memorial Day Weekend and ringing in those summer vibes, and now it’s August.
I must admit this summer has felt a bit off to me. From being out of commission for most of June and half of July to canceling my plans to be out East so that I could rest up and take care of myself, this wasn’t exactly what I signed up for when I started to make plans this summer. But in trying to look at the positives, aside from a week or two of heat waves, it has been a relatively mild summer weather-wise, and once on the mend, I did make time for some beach days.
So, in continuing with my slower pace of life this summer, here’s what I have on the agenda this month:
Upcoming: I’ve been wrestling with some life decisions lately, and while I wish I could say I have them all figured out, the truth is that I don’t. In thinking of some other positives of this summer, I have spent a lot of time (and money) investing in myself and my personal growth. More on that to come soon, along with a pretty big announcement.
Go: Of course, it wouldn’t be summer without a visit to the annual Hampton Classic Horse Show at the end of the month! I’m more excited than usual about it this year because I haven’t been out to the showgrounds since 2019 due to the pandemic. I’m looking forward to making my way around the different rings to watch the competitors show in their respective disciplines. And I’m also excited to check out the vendors for some retail therapy. Even if you’re not an equestrian, you can have a lovely day at The Classic and enjoy great food and shopping.
Listen: One of my favorite musical groups is coming to Heckscher Park for the Huntington Arts Council’s Summer Concert Series on Saturday, August 6. If you’re a fan of classical music and live locally, you don’t want to miss Orchestra Long Island. Grab your beach chair and pack a light picnic for a beautiful evening under the summer stars.
Do: Another one of my favorite activities that I haven’t done this summer is stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). Last summer, I went kayaking a few times, which was fun but not nearly as enjoyable as paddleboarding, in my opinion. Being the water lover I am, I like jumping off the paddle board and being in the water or hanging out on the board and floating on super hot days. If you haven’t tried SUP yet, I highly recommend giving it a go this summer.
Here’s to making the most of the next four weeks!
