Every once in a while I will go through and clean out the myriad of emails that land in my inbox (currently, I’m at a grand total of 3,047 emails that are awaiting my review). Usually, they just remain unopened and eventually get deleted. But occasionally, there will be an enticing subject line that piques my interest just enough for me to read its contents.
That’s precisely what happened when I spotted an email from Refinery29 that promised to reveal my August horoscope (those emails always get me!). Before long, I was reeled in by some other interesting story headline. But it was one of the final stories that caught my eye—about a lip treatment that doesn’t feel like a lip plumper or involve any pain. I don’t know about you, but I am always in search of the latest and greatest lip line. I have amassed a pretty hefty array of lip products, but none of them stick around long enough to make the cut…so, I move on. When this article mentioned a product that gave lips a plumper look and didn’t require a doctor’s visit, I immediately had an add-to-cart moment. Unfortunately for me, so did a lot of other people it would seem, as the product was sold out at my local Sephora. Discouraged by the thought of having to order it online and—gasp—wait for it to arrive at my doorstep, I did the next best thing…forgot about it.
Until last week, when I had a few moments to once again peruse my inbox and remembered that there was something, somewhere that I wanted to order. By this point, I couldn’t even remember the brand name, only that it was a lip plumper. My inbox search revealed the initial Refinery29 email about Kosas’ new lip treatment. After rereading the article and still finding myself intrigued, I once again visited the Sephora website. Only this time, I noticed that there was a brand new Sephora location about two miles from where I was…and it listed the product as being “in stock.” Those two magical words had me jump in my car and hightail it over to the store, during a deluge, I might add. The deluge part is important to the story because it meant that I got to shop the entire Sephora store alone. Like, when does that ever happen?
As the website promised, the Kosas Plump + Juicy Lip Booster was very much in stock. I paid for my purchase, got drenched running back to my car, and immediately applied the product so I could watch it do its magic. It didn’t hurt that the packaging was perfectly on brand with my outfit of the day, but what really sold me was how hydrating the gloss was. From the reviews I read online, I knew there wouldn’t be a “sting” to the product, like what accompanied those old school lip plumper products (hello, Lip Venom…props to you if you remember that product and even more props, if you actually used it). This lip booster was hydrating like a lip balm, but nourishing like a mask, and all with the sheen of a gloss. I’m not entirely convinced that I saw a noticeable difference in the plumpness of my lips for the steep price tag, but with ingredients like concentrated fatty acids to soothe and soften, peptides to firm and smooth, hyaluronic acid to hydrate, and plump oleaoctif to strengthen and plump, I felt good about the benefits and making this my new go-to lip gloss. And since it comes from a clean beauty brand that is vegan, gluten-free, cruelty-free, and free of petroleum derivatives and plumping irritants, it’s also a product that I can stand behind using daily. In just a few uses, the texture of my lips is smoother, and this product leaves them soft and buttery long after the sheen of the gloss has faded.
This is the first product I have purchased from Kosas (a brand I have wanted to try forever), but it certainly won’t be my last. If you still need more convincing about the benefits of this lip plumper, please read the plethora of other glowing five-star reviews on the Internet.
The moral of the story: read those unopened emails. You never know what kinds of surprises—or new products—could be awaiting you!
