If you’re in the millennial generation, you likely know that adulting is hard—and it’s expensive! Between the high cost of living—rent, car, insurance, food, etc.—and demanding work schedules, a sanity fund has never been more crucial.
What’s a sanity fund, you ask? It’s when you put aside money for small pleasures that bring you joy. For me, that’s getting a cup of coffee every morning from my favorite local coffee shop. It’s something that I started doing years ago when I would go into an actual office, and I have continued to do even when working from home. I love stopping somewhere before my work day begins, and I enjoy seeing regular faces before starting the day.
The beauty of a sanity fund is that you can apply it to anything. Love boutique workouts? That’s your sanity fund. Have a pricey hobby? Use it to fund that. I believe it’s so important to save money, and obviously we all have to pay bills, but it’s also necessary to invest money in ways that make our lives better and on the things that improve our mental health.
Do you have a sanity fund?
