As a thyroid cancer survivor, caregiver, and now, a new entrepreneur, gratitude plays a role in everything I do. I’m grateful for my continued good health, the time I get to spend with my grandmother, and, as I grow my business, for the friends and followers who have encouraged and supported me along the way. When National Gratitude Month rolled around, I knew I had a lot to express gratitude for, and what better way to do it than with Pure Placid, a female-founded aromatherapy company based in Lake Placid, New York, to help me take a moment to claim my calm.
Lake Placid holds a special place in my heart. I first visited the Adirondack’s a few years ago, and as a former competitive figure skater, I took full advantage of the fact that it was once home to the 1980 winter Olympics. I skated on the speed skating oval, went down the bobsled run (which I still remember is not for the faint of heart), and enjoyed walking around the quaint sky town. When I was introduced to Pure Placid, I immediately connected with the hometown vibe of one of my favorite places. Then I read the founder Marcy Miller’s story, and was inspired to learn more about their products. As someone who takes her self-care routine seriously, I was impressed with the attention to sourcing high quality ingredients and crafting luxurious products.

When Pure Placid sent over their Claim Your Calm box, it was just what I needed, as I was finalizing my grandmother’s Medicaid application for her long-term care and have been under incredible stress these last few weeks. That, in addition to launching my new business, has made if difficult to go to sleep at a decent hour or find time for relaxation. This box in the Cashmere Sweater scent was the perfect way to invite a little more calm into my life. I love that the soft scent promotes deep relaxation (yes, please!) and reduces stress, anxiety, and fatigue (I’ll take it). But mostly, it encouraged me to take time for myself. Complete with bottles of body lotion, soap, room and linen spray, a travel tin candle with a pack of quotable matches, a body wash, and a sleep mask, this box has everything you need for a cozy night in.

There’s nothing I enjoy more than burning a candle to signal the end of the work day, especially now that I once again work full-time from home. The Cashmere Sweater soy candle has been burning ever since I received it. Combined with the pack of quotable matches reminding me that “the best is yet to be,” this is a great way to unwind in the evening. And when I need to have a mini spa day at home, I use the body wash and lotion before spraying my linens with the room and linen spray for a little extra serenity at bedtime. I also appreciated the sweet sleep and self-care tips that acccompanied the box. Sometimes we all need a reminder about the importance of nighttime rituals.

While I’ve never taken my survivor status for granted, I don’t always prioritize my own mental and physical well-being, especially when taking care of someone else as a sole caregiver. This box was the perfect way to summon some calmness into my hectic life and to remember to be grateful for all the little moments along the way.
