I have a confession: it’s been a minute since I’ve shopped at Abercrombie & Fitch. But with their recent sale, that changed this week. Thinking back to my middle and high school years, A&F (as it was called in the good old days) was a staple. Like, could the school year even begin without a fall haul from that place? I think not. To date myself as a true OG millennial, my go-to look revolved around their bell-bottom jeans (that were ripped in a million places but oh so comfy) and a classic A&F t-shirt or button-down (I think I still may have a few of the latter buried deep in my closet). All these years later, I can still recall the smell of the clothes that had been doused in A&F cologne, a scent that instantly greeted you when you stepped inside the store.
As an adult, I’m pleased to say that my style has changed. Gone are the days of spending too much money on new clothes that could pass for second-hand, and in are the days of living in athleisure wear. So, when someone posted about Abercrombie’s sale, I moused on over to see what they were offering. Aside from long maxi dresses for spring and clothes that would be deemed office appropriate, I found myself swooning over their YPB athletic line. Now that I work from home and have also returned to the occasional boutique fitness class, my athleisure game needs a bit of an upgrade, and the YPB line was exactly what I was looking for. But after perusing their site for way too long, I was sad to see that so many of the pieces I wanted were sold out in my size. Eventually, I improvised and settled on different colors that were in stock. I ordered the YPB sculptLUX squareneck slim tank and the matching leggings in oat with the black pinstripe. But the pièce-de-résistance for me was something I had been searching for for a while and couldn’t find at an affordable price point until now: a workout onesie. Ok, hear me out on this one. As someone who loves a good matching set, this is the best of both worlds. And since it has a shorter length, the YPB sculptLUX onesie will be perfect for outdoor spring and summer workouts. Of course, it’s sleek enough to also work for a variety of things outside working out with a cute long-sleeve top styled over it and a pair of casual sneakers. I have a feeling I will be living in this look for the foreseeable future.
But purchase aside, the nostalgia I feel from placing my first order from Abercrombie as an adult is hitting me hard. This was the place to shop back in the day. And, while I assume that my order won’t arrive at my doorstep accompanied by the lingering smell of cologne, there’s something about waiting for this delivery that has me feeling like a high school kid again. For those who can’t relate, I feel your eye-roll, but just trust that the old A&F was a vibe.
