This past weekend was the best one of the summer (so far)! Not only did we have great weather, which has felt hard to come by lately, but I also had a full itinerary to keep me busy.
While I spent a majority of the weekend at the barn taking care of the two horses I ride while their owner is away, I also carved out some time for myself in the way of sunset swims at the beach, days spent poolside, and afternoon sanity strolls.
But the highlight of my weekend was seeing Johnny Mathis perform live at the NYCB Theatre in Westbury. If you’ve been following my caregiving journey, you may recall that Johnny Mathis was one of my grandmother’s favorite performers. Each night when I would visit her in the long-term care facility, we would sing along to some of Johnny’s most famous hits. So, when an Instagram follower told me he was performing on Long Island, I immediately secured tickets. Candidly, I wasn’t sure I could make it through the entire concert without crying, but Johnny was such an incredible performer that even during difficult moments, his energy was contagious, and I couldn’t stay sad for long. I’m so glad I decided to go to the concert, as it was both emotional and cathartic, but through it all, I felt my grandmother’s presence.
Here are a few highlights from the weekend:
