We’re at that point in the summer where Lana Del Ray’s “Summertime Sadness” song begins to hit home. While I know there is still plenty of summer left, when the calendar reads August, it begins to feel like a mad dash to get everything checked off on my summer agenda. Now that our sweltering heat wave has subsided (yay!) and I’m not caring for two horses every day (as much as I will miss this part of my routine), it feels a little easier to make plans again.
So, here’s what’s on my agenda this month:
Go: What would a month be without a concert? Last month it was seeing Johnny Mathis at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury (best…concert…ever), along with a slew of outdoor concerts at Heckscher Park. But this month, I’m seeing Joe Bonamassa at Jones Beach. If you are a regular reader around here, you may recall that I saw Bonamassa perform at the Beacon Theater in New York City for my 33rd birthday. So, when I heard that he was coming to Long Island, I knew I needed to see him again. I haven’t been to the Jones Beach Theater in a while, but it is one of my favorite venues for concerts. You can’t beat being right next to the water on a summer night!
Do: One of the things I’ve been loving for a while is taking a sanity stroll to break up my day. During the summer months, my sanity strolls have been taking place at the beach as the sun is setting, which have then turned into sanity swims. It has been the best way to end the day. I’m looking forward to taking full advantage of my local beach this month and getting in as many sanity swims as possible.
Plan: I’m still in the planning phase for my European adventure next month, but it’s happening, and I’m starting to get excited. Now that I’m only a month out, it feels like I need to sit down and plan the itinerary for this trip. Having not traveled much over the last couple of years for obvious reasons, this excursion feels like a much-needed experience. If anyone has any post-pandemic travel tips, let me know!
Try: This month, Forward_Space, a cardio dance studio based in New York City, is heading out to The Barn in Bridgehampton. I tried a Forward Flow yoga class with them when they did a pop-up at Hero Beach Club last month, but I can’t wait to take their beloved dance class. I love a good cardio sweat session, and a Forward_Space class is exactly the kind of high-energy workout I’ve been looking for.
Attend: Would the summer be complete without a day at the Hampton Classic Horse Show? The equestrian in me thinks not. This year, the famed show runs from August 27 – September 3, and I’m looking forward to perusing the show schedule to figure out which day of the competition to attend. Even if you’re not an equestrian, the Hampton Classic has something for everyone. From shopping with vendors from around the world to grabbing a coffee at Hampton Coffee and a bite to eat at one of the food trucks, the horse show is a great way to spend a day. I’m looking forward to catching up with my favorite equestrian retailer, Equisite Elements of Style to see some of the latest apparel (that I’m sure I’ll scoop up) and meeting new vendors.
