Well, summer is almost over (insert sad face), and I’m just starting on some of the books I’ve had on my reading list (thanks, #adulting). But some time away always seems like the perfect opportunity to bring a book along and turn some pages while waiting in the airport, before bed, or when jet lag sets in.
That’s just what I did on my most recent trip, and in a few short days, I crossed one book off my reading list. Before I left, I ordered two books from Amazon, one of which was Happy Place by Emily Henry. This is the second book I’ve read from this author, and it seemed like the perfect book to bring along as I was jet-setting off to my own happy place.
This book has been a fan favorite for a while, so I was confident I would enjoy it, even if the plot seemed a little loose to me. The general gist of the book (and without giving too much away, in case it’s still on your reading list, too) is that a former couple has to keep up the charade that they’re still together, as they never told their friends that they had broken off their engagement. Add to that that they are all going on an annual trip to their happy place, and it makes for an interesting story. The book weaves between the past and present to give readers an in-depth look at the former couple’s ups and downs over the years and leaves you perhaps thinking of your own life and the choices you’ve made (and who you made them for).
While I found the book an easy read and the writing engaging, I could have lived with it being a little shorter and with less back and forth. Overall, the story unfolds how you might expect, leaving little to the imagination. Still, I’m an Emily Henry fan and would give this read a solid four out of five stars.
Up next on my reading list…It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover.
