If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I’ve been on a Reels kick of late. It started last month when I was traveling in Europe and getting tons of great video content of my days. Then, when I was back within Wi-Fi range, I would assemble the Reel from my day. But something happened when I began making videos every day—I actually started to enjoy creating this type of digital content more (something I never thought the photographer in me would say), got faster at putting the Reels together, and felt inspired to learn the tricks of the trade when it came to videography.
However, when I got home from my trip, the Reels continued. And I also decided to invest in a gimbal to get more pro-looking footage, especially when taking video while walking (like I do at horse shows). I found myself looking to create more video content and almost forgetting to take photos of my activities.
While some people on Instagram may see tremendous growth from posting Reels consistently, for me, it was more of a personal challenge (although this Reel did get almost 55K views). Making video content is more than just telling a story with words, and it challenged me as a creator to think about my content differently. I’ll share more about the gimbal I purchased soon, but for now, I am in the early stages of teaching myself how to use my new equipment.
Something I love about being a content creator is that there’s always a new tool or technology that can help you improve your craft. Learning to tell stories through video is just as important as writing a compelling caption, and if you have a good eye, it can be a ton of fun, too!
