I don’t know about you, but back when I had a 9-to-5 job, I frequently had the #SundayScaries (or at least the feeling that #SMonday was rolling around). Despite however many plans I’d make over the weekend, or how good my two days of rest were, I always dreaded the start of a new week. I used to feel like getting back into the swing of things took me a good three days, and by that time, the countdown to the weekend was on. So, when my business coach Diana Davis, introduced me to a new day of the week—Calibration Monday—I was all ears.
As you might guess from the name, Calibration Monday is all about, well, calibrating yourself for a new week. In my first round of Camp Clarity last year, Diana explained how she’s implemented the day as an entrepreneur. And I thought it was so genius, that implemented it in my own life, too.
This simple idea of making Monday a day to organize and prioritize yourself for the week is not revolutionary, yet it has been a total game-changer for me. While I’ve had plenty of things over the last year to stress me out, the Sunday Scaries are no longer one of them.
This week, I’m kicking off Calibration Monday a little differently with an early morning pilates class. I’m not much of a morning person, but starting with a workout felt like a good way to ease into the week. After pilates, I scheduled an infrared sauna session, which will help soothe my achy muscles. Then, it will be time for an afternoon of follow-up emails, discovery calls with prospective clients, and client work.
Here’s how I usually implement Calibration Monday as an entrepreneur, but it also can be adapted to work in a 9-to-5 setting.
9:00 AM: Wake up and start my morning skincare routine
9:30 -10:00 AM: Coffee run to my favorite local coffee shop (#IYKYK); Possibly filming content for an Instagram Reel
12:00 – 2:00 PM: Check Google calendar and add items to my weekly agenda; Follow up with emails; Continue prospective client discovery calls. Sometimes, I use this time to head to the barn and get a ride in!
2:00 – 5:00 PM: Office hours for client work
5:00 PM: Sunset #sanitystroll (this may need to be adjusted now that Daylight Saving Time has ended)
6:30 – 7:30 PM: Pick up dinner
7:30 – 9:00 PM: Finish anything left on my agenda that’s pressing; Write a blog post or batch content for Instagram
9:30 PM: Shower and nightly skincare routine
10:00 PM: Likely watching something on Bravo
11:30 PM: Bedtime!
Since I don’t mind doing a little work outside of my 9-to-5 schedule, I love having Monday as a day to tackle a mix of personal and work items. Starting my week with a calibration day has helped me be more focused Tuesday-Friday, and it has given me a good routine and work-life balance as an entrepreneur.
