When it comes to your health, there’s nothing more important, right? But sometimes it can feel easier to stick to the status quo rather than go out and search for answers. I might know a thing or two about that!
About a year ago, my doctor found two fibroids. At first, they didn’t seem to affect my daily life. But as they grew, they became painful, and I began to notice their presence on my petite frame. My doctor and I followed them through ultrasound for the better part of a year and watched as they grew. Eventually, we decided to do a uterine biopsy, and later on, I went for a procedure to remove the uterine lining and sample the findings.
My gynecologist was the one who found my thyroid cancer a decade ago, so I’ve always felt like I was in good hands with him. However, while there were many surgical options presented to me, and different courses of action that I could take to move forward, I never felt like my concerns with each one were being properly addressed. Then, last week, I decided to seek a second opinion, which was the best thing I’ve done. Not only was I able to get a fresh set of eyes on my records, but I also found someone willing to answer all my questions and thoroughly explain each option to me.
While I’m still not entirely sure what my next steps are, I’m proud that I took action to move the needle and that I’m now on my way to eventually feeling better. While it can sometimes feel like a daunting chore to seek out experts, in the end, you’ll be glad you did.
