Happy Valentine’s Day and happy anniversary…to my blog. I can’t believe it’s been ten years since I started this site as a cathartic outlet after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2013. What a decade it has been!
When I first started Living in Steil, I was looking for a place to share my story and searching for a new career path. I never imagined that the blog would lead me to work in social media and public relations in the nonprofit space, but it allowed me to find my calling.
So much has changed over the past decade. Some good, some not so good. But with each transition, I’ve grown stronger and more comfortable in my own skin. And I credit having the blog with helping me feel that way. Over the years, I’ve shared everything here. From my cancer diagnosis to my divorce, and many moves and job transitions along the way. This site and the community around it, have been a huge part of my life.
I credit blogging with so many things. It introduced me to new people, encouraged me to put myself out there (and join the world of social media), gave me the confidence to share my story publicly, made me a better writer, helped me become an entrepreneur, and the list goes on. I love sharing everything on here, from resources I’ve come across to help you become a better advocate to how I returned to a hobby I loved as an adult. And the best part has always been, and always will be, when you reach out to me to tell me how much something I posted resonated with you.
I’m so thankful to have this little space on the Internet and for the community that has been along for the ride. Just the other day, a follower DM’d me to ask how my recent thyroid ultrasound went and if I had gotten my results back. It was such a sweet moment, and it reminded me why I started this blog in the first place.
Thank you to every one of you who read my posts and are invested in what I have to say. It’s been a great ten years with this site, and I can’t wait to see what the next ten years have in store for Living in Steil. Perhaps I’ll finally make my dream of having some blog merchandise a reality. Who knows. But what I do know is that without this community, being a blogger wouldn’t be nearly as rewarding as I feel it is. So, thank you for being a part of this site with me!
