There’s nothing like a good workout after a couple of weeks off to remind you how out of shape you are. But workouts at a beautiful destination make everything better. This past weekend, I attended a cardio pilates class at The Rockaway Hotel hosted by Dianna Falzarano. If the name sounds familiar, that’s because I’ve taken a few classes with her before.
I love it when I can make attending a workout feel like a day trip. So when I found out that Dianna was hosting another pop-up class at The Rockaway Hotel in Queens, about an hour from my house, I signed up more than a month in advance (the last class she had there sold out almost immediately). Plus, my new Diane Von Furstenburg tonal zebra bodysuit from the Target collab needed to officially make its debut.
There’s nothing better than hitting the road for a day trip to a destination you have never been to. The Rockaway Hotel had long been on my agenda to visit and book a stay, but sadly, I hadn’t made it out there…until now. Aside from being only blocks from the beach, the hotel has many amenities to enjoy during a getaway, including a pool, spa services (and a sauna), a coffee house, and a restaurant on site.

I purposely arrived for the workout early, so I could walk around and check out the hotel’s decor. I instantly swooned over the beach vibe, complete with statement light fixtures, some cool wall art, and a cozy fireplace right in the lobby. After perusing for a bit, I made my way upstairs for the workout. The workout space was filled with tons of natural light from windows on both sides and spacious enough to fit the 40 people in attendance. Once inside, I found a mat that was provided by the hotel and settled in for an hour-long workout.

There’s something about being in a large room with lots of people that makes workouts more enjoyable. I immediately felt the energy of those around me, yet found it easy to settle into my body. Since it had been a while since my last workout, I decided to go at my own pace. Dianna’s signature mat pilates class allows people of all levels to follow along and take what they need. I particularly enjoy the paces of her classes and that they target many of the major muscle groups (my abs might still be on fire two days later, just sayin’).

After class, we were treated to goodie bags with items from Bombas, Aloh, Truvani, and some post-workout treats from Bake Dreams (the yogurt with dark chocolate and granola was delish).

Of course, I couldn’t leave The Rockaway Hotel without taking one last lap around the lobby, making my way downstairs to the Greenhouse Cafe, where I got my second iced cappuccino of the day, and then back upstairs to check out the well-curated gift shop. Overall, the hotel has everything you need to enjoy a staycation or getaway. Before leaving the area to head home, I made my way to the water for a quick beachside sanity stroll and to enjoy the spring-like weather.
