This week was one with many highs and lows on the business and personal front. It started off slowly, as I embraced a #CalibrationMonday, which turned out to be just what I needed to set myself up for a successful week. If you haven’t tried using Monday to ease into your work week, I highly recommend it. I use the day to finish anything from the week prior, write out my agenda for the new week, and do any admin work that needs to get done. It has helped me avoid the dreaded “Sunday Scaries,” too.
I approached this week with extra mindfulness, knowing that it marked the anniversary of my grandmother’s passing. As the days inched closer to this significant date, I wrestled with overwhelming emotions. There were so many moments this week where I didn’t know what or how to feel, so I tried to push forward and busy myself with my work.
But alongside feelings of grief were also feelings of excitement, as I was finally able to announce my role as a Care Fellow with Caring Across Generations. I first learned that I was accepted into the 2024 cohort when I was traveling last month, and I had been awaiting the day when I could officially announce it. I’m eager to use my lived experience as a caregiver in a way that can make a positive impact on other people’s lives and one that allows me to carry on my grandmother’s legacy.
On the professional front, I successfully onboarded a new client this week. Despite initial jitters, I swiftly found my rhythm and delved into compelling projects for this mission-driven organization. It was a reaffirming experience that solidified my belief that everything was falling into place.
As the week draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the myriad of emotions and experiences it brought. I am truly grateful for the overwhelming support and encouragement I received following the announcement of my fellowship. Moreover, I was deeply moved when my barn family surprised me with a delivery of flowers, a gesture that holds special significance as I prepare to commemorate the first anniversary of my grandmother’s passing on Monday, coincidentally also marking my 11th year as a thyroid cancer survivor. This week has powerfully underscored the coexistence of grief alongside other emotions.
