{I had to resurrect this photo from the Cayman Islands because…}
Well, it’s November, and you know what that means—it’s my birthday month! After a whirlwind October with one client on a book tour and onboarding a new client that was in full-on cancer awareness month mode, I can confidently say that I’m glad to see November arrive. I also have some exciting travels planned for this month, so let’s dive in!
Go: I can barely contain my excitement as I write this! In just a few short weeks, I’ll be heading to the Cayman Islands. I first visited the Caymans in 2019 with some friends from work, and I instantly fell in love with the white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, perfect temperatures, and the fresh food. We had plans to return the following year, but, as we all know, 2020 changed everything. So, when my friend suggested an impromptu trip for my birthday, I was all in! While it may not be a long trip, it’s just the getaway I need.
Do: It’s hard to believe that my Caring Across Generations fellowship is coming to an end. After six months, all that’s left to do is to present my Capstone project later this month. I’ve learned a lot about the state of care, ongoing policy efforts, and the work that still needs to be done alongside my New York cohort. I’m looking forward to implementing what I’ve learned during this fellowship as I continue to advocate for current and future caregivers and the people they care for. I’m also looking forward to sharing more about my Capstone project soon!
Support: On the caregiving front, did you know that November is National Family Caregivers Month? Given the current caregiving crisis in this country, unpaid family caregivers play a vital role in caring for their loved ones. I’m honored to have met Dawn, a Care Fellow in the New York cohort, while participating in the fellowship. For the past two decades, Dawn has been caring for her mother, who has Multiple Sclerosis, and she’s a dedicated advocate for caregivers (check out her recent NPR feature). She is currently building a much-needed community to support individual caregiver mental health and has recently launched her Instagram page called The Caregivers Clique. Please give her a follow and share her page as a resource for anyone seeking support in their caregiving journey.
Vote: We are just one day away from Election Day! If you haven’t voted yet, please make sure you do so on the day itself. I know many of us are feeling drained by the constant news coverage and political discussions, but the only way to make our voices heard is at the ballot box. This election is too important to skip, and every vote counts toward making a difference. If you’re still undecided, visit IWillVote.com to learn more about the candidates and issues at stake, and create a plan to vote. If you’ve already voted, thank you for participating early. You can still help make a difference by encouraging friends and loved ones who haven’t voted yet to understand the importance of this election.
What’s on your agenda this month?
