My birthday is in T-minus one day, and if you are a regular reader around here, you likely know that I make a big deal out of my birthday…every year. This year, I will be celebrating turning another year older in the Cayman Islands (provided the predicted hurricane that’s forming changes its track). And while I’ve spent the week getting reading work-wise, I’ve also been mentally preparing for how I would like to mark another trip around the sun.
Last year was the first time I ever had a sense of dread around my birthday. There was something palpable that I felt about turning 37, and it hit me like a ton of bricks (and, yes, I know 37 isn’t old). It wasn’t the idea of getting older that bothered me, but rather where I was in life that seemed to do me in. Instead of focusing on where I was at that moment—still grieving the loss of my grandmother and a recent entrepreneur—I focused on where I wasn’t and failed to give myself grace during that period.
Now, with another year under my belt, I have added wisdom and a new perspective that I didn’t have this time last year. I’m not concerned about turning 38. Instead, I’m honored that I get to be another year older and pursue all the things I love, like building my business, continuing my equestrian endeavors, and working on something exciting for caregivers. This past year allowed me to be a Care Fellow with Caring Across Generations, a moderator on a wellness panel for James Lane Post, and an attendee at events where I met interesting people who encouraged and inspired me on my journey.
As I step into this next chapter, I’m leaving behind the doubts and ‘what ifs’ of last year. Instead, I’m embracing each day with gratitude and a sense of purpose, ready to keep building, learning, and enjoying the beautiful journey ahead.
Cheers to 38—and to every lesson, adventure, and opportunity it holds!

Happy Birthday dear Vanessa. Happy for You 💫
Thanks, Claudia!
