So, the end of the year is here! If you thought the holiday season started about five minutes ago, you’d be right. But, seriously, it does feel like that. The entire fall felt like it went by in the blink of an eye to me, a trend that looks like it’s here to stay through the remainder of the year. If you’ve felt that way too, here’s your permission slip to come up for a little air before we get into the holidays ahead. This could mean staying off of social media, taking a staycation, or getting out of town. But before the year officially ends, be sure to take some time for yourself.
As for what I’ll be up to this month, let’s get into my December agenda:
Do: One of my favorite traditions as an adult has been putting a wreath on my front door and getting a real Christmas tree. To me, nothing beats the scent of having a real tree in my living room (even if that means I’ll be cleaning up pine needles for the next six months after it departs my dwelling). Last year was the first year in more than a decade that I broke that tradition and didn’t do a tree. And, sadly, it looks like I won’t be doing one this year either (keep reading below to find out why). But I did get a beautiful wreath last week, and it has brought me so much joy. Each time I leave my home, I’m greeted by the fresh scent that reminds me of this special time of year.
Go: If you’re wondering why I’m not putting a tree up again this year, it’s because I will be traveling over Christmas and New Year’s. While technically there is a little bit of time before I depart, it just doesn’t feel the same to me to put a tree up and then take it down before I leave. But I am looking forward to spending the holidays in Europe and experiencing some Christmas markets and new traditions.
Attend: I recently got invited to a holiday pop-up event by the renowned Korean skincare brand, Océglōw—and the best part is that you can come, too. I first learned of the brand over the summer when I got invited to this event in the Hamptons. But when I saw they were hosting a one-day-only holiday market with a curated selection of local vendors offering unique handcrafted gifts, I knew I had to attend. The best part is that it is local at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, so if you are on Long Island and looking to get gifts for everyone on your list in one place, get your tickets to join me on Saturday, December 14!
See: If you’ve been looking to add some things to-do to your holiday agenda, I highly recommend heading into New York City to see the tree at Rockefeller Center or the holiday markets at Bryant Park. While I found that a lot of the iconic stores didn’t go all out this year for their holiday windows, I enjoyed watching the city transform for the season. It’s always fun to stop by The New York Public Library to see Patience and Fortitude with their wreaths on or to visit my new favorite store, the Louis Vuitton store at 6 E 57th Street, to see the most amazing scaffolding design. If you’re looking for something closer to home on Long Island, there’s always the Christmas tree on Wall Street in Huntington Village (seen above). Afterward, you can explore the town, do some holiday shopping, or eat at one of my favorite restaurants, The Farm Italy.
