A few days ago, I grabbed the suitcase I’d spent what felt like weeks packing and headed to the airport, ready to spend the holidays abroad. Although I arrived at my destination less than 72 hours ago, I can already feel the stress of the past few weeks melting away.
The holiday season here in Europe feels like a much quieter affair compared to the hustle and bustle back home in the U.S. Some houses are adorned with simple, minimal decorations, and of course, the festive Christmas markets add a special charm. Beyond that, it seems people here are embracing the season in ways that feel meaningful to them, free from the frenzy.
Since losing my grandmother, the holidays have been a challenging time. Last year was the first Christmas where I had to create my own traditions. While I received plenty of party invitations, I just wasn’t in a festive mood. This year, I decided to do something completely different—changing my scenery in hopes of finding a bit of peace. I’m looking forward to reflecting on the year that’s passed while preparing myself for the new year ahead.
Wishing you all a joyful holiday season filled with the people, places, and plans that bring you happiness. Whether you’re traveling near or far, spending time alone, or celebrating with loved ones, may this season be a perfect end to your year.
I’ll be taking the next couple of weeks “off” to fully embrace my travels, but I look forward to reconnecting with you in 2025!
