I wasn’t planning to have a word of the year for 2025, but I was in a group for creatives the other day, and the topic came up. Initially, I was stumped. Then, I looked down at the beautiful new bracelet on my wrist that I just received from Names for Good to support the National Domestic Workers Alliance, and it came to me—Care.
As soon as I said the word aloud, I knew that care was my word of the year. A word that already felt like a guiding principle in my own life and one that trickled down to everything I do. Care reminds me to prioritize not only the well-being of others but also my own physical and mental health. It influences how I approach my business, relationships, and the energy I bring into spaces.
For me, care is about the small, intentional actions that make a big difference. It’s pausing to check in with myself on busy days, offering a listening ear to a friend, or being mindful of how I allocate my time and resources. It’s the driving force behind my advocacy work with caregivers, influences how I approach my business and even affects the way I interact with my community on social media.
As I step into 2025, I want care to show up everywhere—in the projects I take on, the connections I nurture, and the moments I create for myself to rest and recharge. It’s a reminder to give myself grace, stay aligned with my values, and hold space for the things and people that truly matter.
What I love about having a word of the year is how it serves as a compass, guiding your intentions and helping you refocus when life inevitably gets chaotic. Care feels like a perfect fit for where I am right now—ready to grow, give, and ground myself in purpose.
Have you chosen a word of the year? I’d love to hear what you’ve selected and how you plan to integrate it into your life. Share your word in the comments below, so we can inspire each other!
