When Long Islanders get a 70-degree day in March, there’s only one thing to do—drop everything and head outdoors. And that’s exactly what I did on Saturday.
After weeks of unpredictable spring weather (mostly leaning toward cold and dreary), waking up to sunshine and tank-top temperatures felt like a gift. I wasn’t about to waste it. So, I grabbed my sunglasses, hopped in the car, and set off for the South Shore, ready to soak up the rare warmth and take my much-needed sanity stroll.
But first—coffee. No beach day is complete without it, so I made a quick detour to Southdown Coffee. Their newest location is conveniently located where I was headed, in Point Lookout, but I stopped at one of their other outposts along the way. There’s something about sipping a great cup of coffee in the car, windows down, that sets the tone for a perfect day. Oh, and a side note: I accidentally ordered my eggs over easy the other day, and now I’m obsessed. If you like your yolks runny, trust me—this is the way to go.
When I finally rolled into Point Lookout, it was clear I wasn’t the only one with this idea. Parking was a game of patience, but after a few loops, I found a spot. As I walked toward the beach, the familiar scent of salt air hit me, and just like that, I felt transported—like I had somehow fast-tracked to summer.

The beach was stunning. The kind of quiet, sun-drenched scene that makes you pause and just breathe. Some people were laying out, fully embracing the warm spell, while others, like me, opted for a long walk along the shore. As the waves lapped against the sand, my mind started to clear. There’s something about the ocean that always brings clarity—lately, I’ve been reflecting on the life I want to create, the things I want more of, and what truly makes me feel fulfilled. The answers always seem to come easier when I’m walking by the water.

After hitting more than 13,000 steps (yes, I checked), the clouds began rolling in, and the temperature started to dip. That was my cue that it was time to refuel. And when I’m in town, there’s only one place to go: Mo’Nelisa Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria. Their vodka sauce pizza is next level—the perfect balance of sweet and savory. If I could eat it every day, I would.
As I sat there, enjoying my pizza and reflecting on the day, I couldn’t help but smile. A 70-degree day in March is a rare treat, but it’s also a reminder: sometimes, the best moments are the ones you never planned for. And if you ever get the chance to ditch your to-do list and chase the sun, do it—you won’t regret it.
