Last week was extraordinarily busy…way more busy than normal. I had everything from multiple client events to meetings and content deadlines—all seemingly happening at the same time. So, by the time the weekend rolled around, I was completely burnt out.
The thing about entrepreneurship is that you can’t always schedule your downtime. When you’re managing multiple clients, the requests come in constantly, and sometimes, taking weekends off feels like a luxury you just can’t afford.
After a full week of running social accounts, creating tons of video content for a client’s major fundraising day, and pitching out an upcoming event for another, the last thing I wanted to do over the weekend was create content for my own platforms—let alone scroll through my social media feed. So, I decided to take some intentional time away from Instagram, and if nothing else, my eyesight definitely appreciated the break.
But more than just giving my eyes a rest, stepping away from social gave my mind the reset it desperately needed. When you’re constantly consuming content—trends, reels, and everyone’s perfectly curated lives—it becomes hard to hear your own creative voice. As someone who creates for a living, I’ve learned that creativity doesn’t thrive in a state ofconstant noise. It needs stillness and space.
By Sunday afternoon, without the usual dopamine hit from notifications or the pressure to post something witty or aesthetically pleasing, I felt a noticeable shift. New ideas started flowing. Blog post topics came to mind. And the funny part? That spark came only after I permitted myself to do absolutely nothing.
This weekend was a much-needed reminder that rest is part of the process. Stepping away doesn’t mean you’re falling behind—it means you’re protecting the part of yourself that makes the work possible in the first place.
So if you’re feeling drained, creatively blocked, or just plain overwhelmed, I can’t recommend a little digital detox enough—even if it’s only for a few hours. Your nervous system, and your creativity, will thank you.
