I don’t know about you, but this recent heatwave stopped me in my tracks—literally. Between the relentless sun, the sluggish pace of my day, and the way everything suddenly felt too much, I realized: I needed a reset. Not just from the weather, but from the way I was moving through the season.
Summer always brings this pressure to be on—to say yes to every invite, to keep up with work, and to somehow make it all look effortless. But sometimes the heat (both literal and metaphorical) is the thing that reminds us to pause, reassess, and ask ourselves: Is this still working for me?
Here are a few signs I noticed that told me it was time for a summer reset (even if summer did technically just begin about five minutes ago)—maybe you’ll recognize some of them too:
1. You’re exhausted, even after rest. Lately, I’ve been going to bed early and still waking up drained. It’s not just the heat—it’s the mental load, the back-to-back Zooms, and the expectation to keep up the pace. Rest isn’t just about sleep; it’s about slowing your nervous system. That’s been my cue to do less, and be more intentional with what I say yes to.
2. Your routines feel more like chores. Even the rituals I normally love—my morning walk, getting my coffee, even content creation—started to feel heavy (something I recently wrote a whole post about). That was my sign to step back, simplify, and reframe. Some days, resetting looks like swapping my usual schedule for a quiet moment in front of the fan with an iced cappuccino and no agenda.
3. You’ve lost connection to joy. I realized I was moving through my days without really being in them. I was showing up, but not feeling much. When everything starts to feel muted, that’s your body’s way of asking for a refresh—of perspective, pace, or purpose.
4. You’re craving space (but don’t know what for). Sometimes we want space not because we’re overwhelmed by others, but because we need to hear ourselves again. I’ve been carving out quiet, unplugged mornings—even just 15 minutes—to reconnect with what I need, not just what’s expected.
So what does a summer reset actually look like?
For me, it’s less about doing more and more about undoing—the pressure, the noise, the unnecessary urgency. It’s choosing slower mornings over packed calendars. Letting go of the guilt around rest. Allowing myself to be present without being productive.
Here’s what I’m leaning into this season:
- Saying no without explanation
- Spending time near water (even if it’s just dipping my toes in)
- Wearing the breeziest linen I own
- Leaving my phone on silent during walks
- Remembering that a reset doesn’t have to be dramatic—it can be quiet, slow, and just for me
If you’ve been feeling off lately—like the rhythm of your life doesn’t quite match the season—you’re not alone. Maybe this is your invitation too. To pause. To reimagine. To make space for whatever this version of summer is calling you toward.
Sometimes the most radical thing we can do is…breathe, sip something cold, and begin again.
Is this season asking you to slow down, too? I’d love to hear how you’re pressing reset this summer—drop a comment below or share your favorite way to recharge.
