If summer had a motto right now, it would be: “Do less, stay cool.” With the heat wave in full swing on Long Island, the hustle has taken a back seat—and honestly, I’m not mad about it.
As someone who’s used to that go-go-go energy, especially as a business owner and content creator, extreme weather can serve as a forced pause—and a much-needed reminder to protect my energy. Because when it’s too hot to function, it’s also too hot to push through for the sake of being “productive.”
Here’s how I’m shifting my mindset (and my schedule) to show up more intentionally this week:
1. Hydration is my first priority: It sounds obvious, but in this heat, it’s non-negotiable. I’ve been keeping my Hint water stocked, sipping iced cappuccinos in the mornings, and even adding electrolytes (the packets from Superior Electrolytes are my go-to) to my afternoon drinks when I feel sluggish. Staying hydrated keeps me mentally clear—even when I’m moving a little slower.
2. I’m honoring the slowdown: Instead of powering through long to-do lists, I’ve been leaning into shorter bursts of focus early in the morning or late in the evening. The mid-afternoon hours? Reserved for rest, reading, or catching up on client work indoors with the AC on full blast. It’s not about doing nothing—it’s about doing less with more intention.
3. I’m getting creative indoors: Heat waves aren’t ideal for shooting content outside, so I’ve shifted to indoor filming. I even used the time indoors to try the #NickiMinajChallenge, which I filmed solo—with the help of my oscillating fan (if you haven’t seen my Reel, definitely go check it out). These hot days are a chance to work smarter, not harder—and to stay consistent without burning out (pun intended).
4. I’m protecting my peace: This heat has been a great excuse to scale back on unnecessary plans, screen time, and social obligations. I’ve been opting for slower mornings, lighter meals, and more time offline. It’s also given me the space to connect with people more intentionally. Just the other day, I met up with a local follower. We’ve DM’d for ages but had never met in person. Our two-hour lemonade break in the shade was just what I needed—a perfect mix of unwinding and real connection, which left me feeling inspired and surprisingly productive.
The truth is, we all hit a point where our bodies ask us to listen—and this heat wave has been loud and clear. So if you’re feeling off, tired, or uninspired, give yourself the grace to pause. Protecting your energy is always in season—even in the middle of a summer heat wave.
