September is here, and I can’t help but feel like a kid heading back to school—one who isn’t quite ready for it. I always struggle the week after Labor Day, and this year was no different. Everything felt harder—from finding the motivation to tackle even basic tasks to staring at my calendar, which now looks like a rainbow of meetings and appointments. There really is no graceful way to ease back into the swing of things.
That said, I’m letting my calendar get back to it…even if I might need a little more time myself. Here’s what’s on my agenda this month:
Go: Even though everyone insists summer is over, for me, summer isn’t truly done until the boats come out of the water. Luckily, that won’t happen for a few more weeks. This weekend, I’m participating in a sailboat race called the Commodore’s Cup. It’ll be my third race this week—and we won the last two—so I’m feeling optimistic. There’s rain in the forecast, but here’s to smooth sailing!
Do: After a summer with limited barn time, I finally have a few horses to ride this month—a welcome pause from my usual schedule. On top of that, I’ll be attending the Longines Global Champions Tour New York at Liberty State Park, overlooking the Manhattan skyline, September 19–21. The final leg of this global equestrian competition promises to be spectacular.
Learn: My Duolingo streak keeps going strong—I’m now at over 145 days of learning German! Six months in, I’m amazed at how much I’ve progressed and how much fun it’s been. Opening the app every day reminds me that learning something new doesn’t have to be intimidating—it can actually become a part of your daily routine that you genuinely look forward to.
Schedule: I know this isn’t glamorous, but September has somehow become my month for all the annual appointments. I used to think summer was the time for check-ups, but now it’s all September. So here’s your reminder: if you’ve been putting off those wellness visits, now’s the time to schedule them. I just went to the ophthalmologist—a new favorite of mine, if you can call it that—and I have a few more doctor’s appointments to go this month. If nothing else, there’s something satisfying about checking them off the to-do list.
What’s on your agenda this month?
