September is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month, a time to honor survivors, those currently facing a diagnosis, caregivers, and everyone who supports them. For me, this month is deeply personal. My own thyroid cancer journey began in 2013, and since then, it has shaped not only my health but the way I live, work, and care for others.
Looking back, I see how much I’ve learned about resilience, patience, and the importance of leaning on a community. I also reflect on my years as a caregiver, watching a loved one navigate the end of life. It gave me a perspective on strength, empathy, and the quiet ways support can make all the difference. These experiences continue to guide me in my work, my advocacy, and my daily life.
Thyroid cancer may not always make headlines, but every story matters. Every survivor, every caregiver, every moment of courage deserves recognition—not just in September, but every day.
This month, I honor the journey—my own and those of so many others—and I want to encourage anyone reading this who is facing cancer or caring for someone with it: you are not alone. Your strength matters. Your story matters. And your courage is inspiring.
Here are some ways to get involved this month:
- Share your story or experience to raise awareness.
- Support thyroid cancer organizations through donations or volunteering.
- Connect with someone going through a thyroid cancer journey—sometimes a simple message of support makes all the difference.
- Educate yourself and others about thyroid health and early detection. Remember to check your neck!
Even small actions can have a meaningful impact. Together, we can shine a light on thyroid cancer and honor the journeys of those affected.
