As September winds down, so too does my two-week stretch of consistent barn days. It’s been a gift to spend this much uninterrupted time with the horses, soaking up the late-summer sun, falling into a rhythm, and letting each day begin (and sometimes end) at the barn. There’s something grounding about brushing a horse, listening to the steady sounds of the barn, and letting the outside world fade for a while.
These two weeks felt like a reset. I moved my body differently—long rides replaced long walks. My schedule became less about emails and deadlines and more about tack and turnout. And mentally, I felt lighter, more present, and deeply connected to something I love.
But as much as I’d like to press pause and keep this barn bubble going, the season is shifting—and so is my routine. Fall always brings with it new projects, events, and commitments. My days will look different: trading barn boots for blazers, early rides for morning calls, and long afternoons outside for cozy evenings indoors. It’s a transition that feels both bittersweet and exciting.
What I’ll miss most are the quiet mornings at the barn, when the only sounds are the horses munching on hay and the birds just starting their day. Yet, I’m also looking forward to what fall holds—cooler weather walks on the beach, seasonal decor, and opportunities to reset my personal and professional goals before the year comes to a close.
If this barn time taught me anything, it’s that slowing down is just as important as moving forward. The peace I found in these two weeks is something I want to carry into fall, even as my schedule fills back up. Whether it’s carving out time for a ride, taking a sanity stroll, or making space for connection, the lessons from the barn will be woven into my new routine.
How are you resetting as you step into fall?
