Last week perfectly captured the contrast — and connection — between two sides of my life. On back-to-back evenings, I attended client events that couldn’t have been more uplifting. One honored breast cancer survivors and their unwavering strength. The other celebrated inspiring alumni who are changing their communities for the better. Both nights were filled with heartfelt speeches, glittering smiles, and the kind of energy that reminds me why I love the work I do — telling meaningful stories and supporting organizations that make an impact.
But just as quickly as I traded my workday outfit for a cocktail-inspired look, I swapped my heels for sneakers and found myself taking to the streets, protest sign in hand. The transition from ballroom to boulevard was almost symbolic, a reminder that advocacy doesn’t always happen behind a computer screen or at a polished event. Sometimes, it means standing shoulder to shoulder with others, using your voice, and showing up where it counts.

As I was making my protest sign in the back of my car, a mere 30 minutes before it was set to begin, I couldn’t help but think about how my journey has brought me here. From being a young professional excited about attending galas and networking events to someone equally passionate about showing up for causes I believe in. Both experiences, in their own way, fill me with purpose.
These experiences reminded me that we can hold space for both — the celebration and the call to action, the sparkle of a fundraiser and the grit of a movement. Maybe that’s what true balance looks like: showing up for change in heels or sneakers, whether you’re holding a glass of champagne or a protest sign.
