Summer Fridays may officially be over, but when you work for yourself, you don’t need much of a reason to take a day off. That’s exactly what I did last week when a friend suggested a spontaneous trip to the Hamptons. It took a little planning—rescheduling client work, clearing meetings, and blocking off the day—but it turned out to be the perfect fall reset.
I had planned to leave after my one standing meeting of the day, the only one I couldn’t cancel. But as luck would have it, my client ended up canceling, which meant we hit the road a bit earlier than expected. And if you know the Hamptons, even off-season, earlier is always better.

Our first stop was the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill. It’s one of my favorite Long Island museums, and while small, it never disappoints with its thoughtfully curated art. The location was perfect for the start of our journey, allowing us to ease into the day without feeling rushed.

Next up it was time to hit Hampton Coffee, a go-to spot when caffeine is desperately needed. Usually, I grab my coffee to-go, but this time we actually dined in. I ordered the breakfast skillet, which did not disappoint.

With bellies full and caffeine in hand, we embraced the spontaneity of the day and headed to the nearest beach. On the South Shore of Long Island, finding a beautiful stretch of sand isn’t hard. The crisp fall air, gentle waves, and quiet shoreline made for the perfect sanity stroll.

Before calling it a day, we had one final stop on our list: Wölffer Estate Vineyard. I’ve wanted to visit for years—not only because the owner is a fellow equestrian, but also because I’m obsessed with their Summer in a Bottle rosé. Finally checking this off my bucket list felt like a mini victory. From the equestrian-inspired decor to the sprawling vineyards, I could have lingered for hours. My friend and I each ordered a tasting flight, savoring rosés, whites, and reds while soaking in the vineyard’s serene beauty.

By the time we headed home, it felt like we indulged in a getaway as opposed to a simple day trip. We checked off all the stops we wanted to, and enjoyed a relaxed pace, which reminded us of the freedom that comes with leaving room for the unexpected. You don’t need a perfectly planned schedule to have a memorable adventure. Sometimes the best moments happen when you simply follow your curiosity and let the day unfold. Days like this are a beautiful reminder that life doesn’t always have to be scheduled down to the minute to feel full, joyful, and truly rejuvenating.
