Apparently, I’ll get up at the crack of dawn to take the train and walk miles through SoHo, but only if it involves a good sweat, great company, and a delicious brunch.
That’s how my recent morning in the city began: an early train ride from Long Island into Manhattan to make it to a Forward__Space class. If you’ve ever been to one, you know it’s not your typical workout. Think dim lights, loud music, and an energy that feels electric from the moment you walk in. Each class is part dance party and part therapy session that leaves you sweaty, smiling, and lighter in more ways than one.

After class, I met up with a friend who recently moved to another state and came to the city for a visit. We strolled through the cobblestone streets of SoHo, me still buzzing from the movement high and both of us in search of something nourishing to eat. We landed at The Butcher’s Daughter, one of my favorite brunch spots for plant-based eats and good vibes. Between the breakfast sandwiches, lattes, and post-workout chatter, it was exactly the kind of reset my week needed.

What struck me most about the morning wasn’t just the class or the food—it was how whole I felt afterward. Physically energized, emotionally grounded, and mentally clear. It reminded me that self-care doesn’t always look like a spa day or staying in bed with a book (though I love those days, too). Sometimes, it’s getting out of your comfort zone, setting that early alarm, and doing something that feeds your mind, body, and soul.
Here’s to taking time, even when life feels busy, to nourish our whole selves. Whether that means moving your body, catching up with a friend, or treating yourself to a healthy brunch, these small acts of care have a big impact.
Now, if you need me, I’ll be recovering for the next three business days!
