Ahh, another birthday and another year around the sun is happening…today. I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on what this next year means to me as I turn 39. In the past, I might have shared a list of lessons learned or highlights from the year, but this birthday feels different. It feels quieter and more intentional.
If there’s one thing this birthday has taught me, it’s about time—how it moves, how it heals, and how it shapes us.
In my twenties, time felt endless. I was always rushing toward the next milestone, eager to see what was around the corner. I remember my grandmother telling me not to wish my life away and how fast it all goes. I didn’t believe her then, but my thirties have taught me that time is far more precious—not something to be filled—but something to be felt. While the years still feel like they blur together in a rush of to-do lists and deadlines, they’re also defined by moments of connection, clarity, and even stillness.
This past year, I’ve thought a lot about how I spend my time—who I give it to, what I prioritize, and where I allow myself to pause. I’ve realized that time is the ultimate currency, and it’s worth investing in things that bring me peace, purpose, and joy.
Aging has changed my relationship with time. It’s no longer about how much of it I have, but how deeply I live within it. I’m learning to slow down, to savor quiet mornings, to appreciate the work I get to do, and to celebrate the people who make the years feel full.
So as I step into this next trip around the sun, I’m not worried about the number or the countdown to the last year in my thirties. I’m focused on being present, on giving my time to what matters, and trusting that everything else will unfold when it’s meant to.
Because if there’s one thing this birthday has reminded me, it’s that time is the ultimate gift…and I want to savor it.
