After weeks of planning, list-making, and packing (and repacking), the day finally arrived—I was Europe-bound. There’s something about wheeling a suitcase through an airport that instantly shifts your energy. Suddenly everything feels possible again. Maybe it’s the thrill of a new stamp in the passport or the chance to leave behind routine in exchange for discovery. Either way, boarding that flight felt like stepping into a much-needed reset.
The journey itself was a blur of coffee, airplane naps that were more wishful than restful, and that quiet excitement you get somewhere over the Atlantic when you realize: I’m really doing this.

Landing was like opening a window—cool air, soft morning light, and a comforting sense of calm I didn’t even realize I needed. Even though I was running on little sleep, I couldn’t help but smile as I made my way outside…and immediately made friends with the four-legged locals. (If you’ve been here long enough, you knew that was coming.) Leave it to me to find some furry friends on day one.
There’s something magical about the first hours in a new country. The way every sound, smell, and sidewalk feels unfamiliar yet oddly grounding. I wandered around in that hazy, happy state where you’re equal parts jet-lagged and curious—stopping for my first European cappuccino, taking in the architecture, and letting my feet guide me.

I didn’t set an agenda for my first day, and honestly, that might have been the best decision I made. Instead of rushing to explore, I let myself ease into the rhythm here—slower, calmer, more intentional. I watched people commute on bikes, listened to snippets of conversations I couldn’t translate, and soaked in the novelty of being somewhere completely different from home. It always takes me a few days to adjust to the slower pace of life here, but once I do, I never want to leave.
As the day wound down, I realized this trip already feels like exactly what I needed: a pause, a new beginning, and a reminder that it’s okay to step away from the familiar once in a while. Sometimes the best moments happen when you simply let the day unfold…jet lag and all.
